Here we go. The plan is to write about whatever happens to be occupying my thinking for some portion of the day. I doubt if there will be any kind of consistency over the long-haul but some topics you can expect to read about include: politics, media, religion, business related issues, trends, annoyances, society, entertainment and other random commentary perhaps often about the BAR forum.

Smiling beggars sometimes...

Posted 4th September 2009 at 02:28 AM by joderu95 (joderu95's Blog)

The latest tactic employed by the local "pan handlers" is to make a deliberate and very unconvincing wave often coupled with a big smile.

I don't buy it.

One of them even has a sign that reads something like this:

"It costs you nothing to wave hello."

It costs him nothing not to subject me to that nonsense. Can't this guy just stay home or in his park and not clog up the street corners just on those especially pleasant...

A Feast of Snakes by Harry Crews

Posted 30th November 2008 at 10:16 PM by joderu95 (joderu95's Blog)

This is the third book I've read by Harry Crews and each time they've gotten more intense. A Feast of Snakes is a book about rural Georgia and people that behave as if they are living in the antebellum era, but for the modern past times, the main one being also the title of the story an annual rattlesnake "roundup". Old racist relationships are the norm of day-to-day life, organized dog fights and selling and drinking moonshine and "bonded" whiskey in large amounts are favorite...

The Coming Financial Collapse

Posted 23rd November 2008 at 02:04 AM by joderu95 (joderu95's Blog)

It's going to be a real drag I think.

I read a Paul Krugman Op-Ed today where he compared the presidential "interregnum" of Hoover to FDR with the current Bush to Obama transition. Krugman stated that this time in between administrations can be very destructive to the economy due to a lack of effectiveness of a lame duck president combined with the lack of official authority of the President-elect. He also said the pace at which the economy is circling the toilet bowl appears...

A letter to the WWE

Posted 1st July 2008 at 07:15 PM by joderu95 (joderu95's Blog)

I turned the TV to one of your "professional wrestling matches" last night and I think, at least for a few hours while I was drinking, I (re)"got" the whole spectacle that is your sport. The thing is - and those who don't want to hear a hard truth about this business should read no further - your sport is fake. But guess what?! That's ok, it can be turned to your considerable advantage ($$$). Rather than continuing to deny your true nature, the administrators, promoters, and...

Radio's morons

Posted 13th June 2008 at 03:25 AM by joderu95 (joderu95's Blog)

Jerry Doyle is one of them.

He is one of the endless supply of right-wing radio personalities that fill the airwaves with opinion everyday. If pressed he claims to be a Libertarian (a common tack by media types ostensibly trying to claim a neutral ground) but like 9 of 10 talk show hosts on the radio he spends practically every minute berating Democrats and anything "left" or "liberal." I've listened to his show several times, although never in its entirety due...
