Rob Thurman, who I totally didn't know was a girl until after I'd read her series about Cal (Nightlife, Moonshine, Madhouse and Deathwish), and I was so excited when I found out.

Rob Thurman created what I believe to be the best/coolest troll in all of Fantasy history. Imo.

I find Ayn Rand's books to be quite interesting. She posits a world where implausible and discredited hard libertarian economics actually works. Her exploration of this world seems quite ham-fisted and banal, but the idea itself is outrageous enough to be intriguing.

Without a doubt it has to be Tamora Pierce in my case. I love all of her books, but my favourite would have to be Trickter's Choice and Trickster's Queen. Interesting characters, origional plot, good story telling voice...
