Lael Tucker Wertenbaker: The Eye of the Lion:Mata Hari
Based on the life of the famous Mata Hari (Margaretha Geertruida "Grietje" Zelle )born in the Netherlands.
The story is told from 3 point of views. Mata Hari was born in a well off family, giving her a comfortable childhood.Later on her father went bankrupt and her parents divorced and soon after her mother passed away. Through her provocative dancing came connections to military officers and traveling at a time when it was forbidden. She was arrested in 1917 at the age 41 accused of being a double agent and spying for Germany and said to have caused the deaths thousands of soldiers. She was found guilty and was executed by firing squad later on the same year. The reader can make up their own minds if she was used as an excuse to cover others up or if she really was a spy.
