I read Reading Lolita in Tehran some years ago and what I enjoyed the most was the literary parts and her talk about the novels and their authors. I'm not very enthusiastic about this one since it focus more on family issues.
Lovecraft might be the worst writer I've ever read .
His prose is just terrible , and his stories are ten times longer than it should be. I admit that he had some brilliant ideas , but since when did great ideas alone make a great author ?
I enjoyed reading this article in The Guardian last week "Our guilty secrets: the books we only say we've read"
It says that 65% of readers admit lying about reading classic novels.
I don't remember ever lying about reading a book , and regarding James Joyce's Ulysses , I've never read it and...
saliotthomas, I'm glad that I fueled your curiosity toward Moravia. He sure deserves some promoting ..
His books is mostly about contemporary relationships .

No surprise indeed with Stephen King. I remember him saying once in an Amazon interview that Lord of Flies is the book he wish he'd written.
I'm surprised though by Azar Nafisi's choice. One would have thought she would choose something by Nabokov !

I read two of his novels, Contempt and Conjugal Love, and I was extremely impressed. He writes with such charming simplicity and insight and it makes me want to read all of his work.

Apparently, I'm the only one who didn't like this book :rolleyes:. I felt it was over-written , over-gothic and over-hyped .The characters didn't seem a bit original but rather a mixture of 19th century literature's characters. I was half way through it when I decided that I was ganna stop...
