Similar books to Silver Linings Playbook

Hello. I have recently read Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick after watching the movie and I loved it very much. I know that the book does not focus on the romance as much as the movie, mostly focuses on Pat's life and him moving on, but I really loved how the romance developed.
I am looking for a book that is set in more or less 2000 year. I want:
-the characters to be realistic
-drama (not necessary)
-the main character to struggle through life (not necessarily due to mental disorder)
