I read a book several years ago and cannot remember the title or the author for the life of me!
It begins with an American soldier that finds a woman in nunnery in Europe and helps her escape from there and her Russian husband. The rest of the plot is basically her manipulating him and countless men until she eventually becomes a princess. Pretty sure there is a french guy who wants to duel the American at some point and her handmaid is the only one that gets a happy ending.
