No Damage by Kathryn Hodgson

I've just finished reading this book (I was given a review copy by the author), so I thought I'd share the review I left on Amazon for it, as it's a really great book.

I just finished reading this book, and wow my goodness what a book it is! At first I wasn't sure if it was autobiographical or pseudo-biographical. Reading the parts about her mother's illness made me feel it must surely be a true story, as there was so much raw emotion and attention to detail poured into those sections. I'm not ashamed to say I shed a few tears - my heart hurt for Kathryn and her family. Later though, her accounts of Oscar had me wondering again. Could anybody truly behave the way he did? It seemed almost too much to be true! I'm still reeling from those sections, and I'm incredibly amazed how Kathryn tolerated such behaviour for so long.

I feel as though I've looked into somebody's soul, almost as if I've intruded a little by doing so, and I can't help but have the greatest sense of being incredibly privileged to have read such a moving insight into a total stranger's life.

As for the book itself, it's very well written, articulate, and Kathryn has the wonderful ability of turning even mundane actions like walking dogs into such compelling reading that I didn't want to turn off my computer - I just wanted to keep reading and see what was going to happen next.

It's quite remarkable how much happened to this lady in such a short space of time. From utter despair, to complete triumph, and I can't tell you how glad I am that it all had a happy ending!

Wonderful book, definitely worth reading, I would recommend it to anyone.
