The Foundation Series

I am about half-way through the series. I stopped when I realized I didn't have the next book in the series and moved on to other stuff. I need to finish the series.

Anyhoo, I believe your friend is wrong. Foundation is a great book but the other books in the series (so far) are also pretty good.
 
The original trilogy: Foundation, Foundation and Empire and Second foundation are the best of the books. Whatever you do finish this after that point they are all pretty bad. I would recommend finishing the robot series as well. The rest of the foundation were written 20 years after the first three so they feel very detached from the rest. (My opinion)
 
I think those series are not bad at all. As with anything, there are strong opinions against the series and for the series. Still, I agree that the last books were not as good as the first ones (as explained above).
 
i tried reading them in "order" starting with the prequel and moving onward from there. I quite enjoyed the prequel, found it better than all the other books. foundation was alright, although i just couldnt stand this authors writing after a while
 
I started with the originals and got to the prequel later myself. I usually find it better to read the things in the order in which they were written.
