I finished this book last night and absolutely couldn't put it down. It is a mystery set in Victorian England, but has a high-tech twist. The story starts with Eddie, who is a street-urchin, who steals wallets. When he steals the wallet of George Archer, he gets himself mixed up in a mystery...
I'm currently teaching a reading class for 7th graders. They are on-grade-level readers and the class is designed to increase their reading fluency. I'm going to be starting "Poetry Friday." I was looking for recommendations of good poems/poetry books for the age group (I know Shel...
I've recently (in the past three years) gotten into reading cozy mysteries. I've noticed something fascinating...cozy authors almost always tend to include cats in their books. The cats might not be main characters, but they're present. It makes me curious as to whether those who write...
Any other cozy mystery fans out there? (You know, the ones without blood and guts).
I got into cozies with Carolyn G. Hart's Death on Demand books (an impulse purchase). Her books led me to read Dame Agatha's books (great mysteries, poor writing) & Dorothy L. Sayers (whom I love). I've...
I'm currently tutoring a struggling 7th grade reader. She reads independently on a 3rd-4th grade level, and reads instructionally on a 4th-5th grade level. She enjoys non-fiction nature books, as well as the Mary Kate & Ashley Olson books (yeck). Do you know of any books on that level that...
Hey guys, its great to be back after an extended absense. I took a break from the internet this summer and the first half of this semester, as I was moving and working a new job and starting grad school. I haven't had nearly as much time to read this semester as I would like (working parttime...
Hello All,
I am currently in graduate school to get my teacher's certification and a master's degree in secondary education. I am enrolled in a reading class, which is designed to broaden our reading selections.
I am an avid reader, but I'm hoping that some of you can help me find books...
My husband found this for me today. Its called Konfabulator, description below:
They're working on a version for windows at the moment. Its quite cool, and the number of widgets is astounding. Of course, I hate desktop clutter, so I only have the weather and an amazon search box up...
I just finished Riotous Assembly by Tom Sharpe. Different. I think the man is obsessed with sex, the kinkier, the better. I'm not sure I could say I enjoyed the novel, though some parts were certainly funny, but the ending was satisfactory and it certainly didn't get boring. Not sure if I'll...
I was wondering if any of you had reading-related hobbies? I collect quotes from various books in a "quote journal," as well as collecting different bookmarks (usually the metal ones with quotes on them) to use in my books. I also frequent this forum, as well as other reading-related sites...
Stop You're Killing Me is a great site for those who enjoy a good mystery. Find a listing of books by author or sleuth. With each author, you get a list of all their featured sleuths, what books each sleuth is featured in, links to those books, and links to any new books coming out by that...
As we live in a valley, we're surrounded by mountains. Luckily, we got a view with mountains on both sides of the apartment. Here are a few pics:
The View from our Balcony/Living Room
The View from the Bedroom (Opposite side of the apartment from the balcony)
The view from the...
I found this site full of wonderful computer wallpapers. I know some of you enjoy changing your wallpapers often, as do I, and I thought you might find some of these to your liking.
I particularly like this one.
I think this is an amusing little site. See a new "Creature" from the artists head on a daily basis. Some are cute, some are not, and some are downright disturbing.
I found this website featuring a list of books for preteen/early teen girls, which promote independent and intelligent females. I thought some of you with children that age might be interested, as the literature for children seems often to promote girls as inferior to boys.
Found this via another forum: JK Rowling's Official Website - there is a bit of info about various characters and other assorted rumors, as well as a biography and some other interesting material.
Thought some of you might want to check this out.
