That was cruel. And I guess you take pleasure in insulting a 13 year-old on an internet thread. Good job.

    Any Clive Barker fans?

Imajica is the only Barker work I have read but it will probably stay as my most favorite. Just picked up Galilee, Weaveworld and The Great and Secret Show all for a buck a piece because of a local library sale I went to. Cannot go wrong for that price.

    Biographical Fiction

I agree with you Mari in that I find myself continually wondering if what I am reading is a fictional part of the story or not. I would take a non-fictional biography over a fictional one almost 100% of the time unless it is about someone where very little factual information is known. Say a...

    Favourite Biographies

It's very good if you don't mind reading a book that very heavily devles into historical fact. I haven't seen the movie but Oliver Stone mentioned that this book was the prime source of information for him when developing the movie and it is also considered the best biographical book on...

    Writing Letters

This is a good thread. I have the same feelings about writing letters as you both do. It is a lost art. My difficulty with letter writing is that when I have written letters to people, they find me weird for doing it. Then, over time, they continue to joke, make sarcasms and totally bash...

Need some help with some things

Hello, I'll start off by saying that I have no idea what novel it is you're trying to find specifically. But, your thoughts on finding a new novel to read and how you don't like a defined gender class etc. got me instantly thinking about Ursula K. LeGuin for some weird reason. She writes...

    Edgar Allen Poe

Yup, I got mine from my local Chapters bookstore for only $12.99 Cdn.

hi new author on board :)

Hello and welcome. Just curious to know if you are a full time author or only write as a hobby? 21 years of age is very young to dedicate yourself fully to being an author unless you are extremely good or very wealthy.

    Edgar Allen Poe

    Poe is great. The end.

    Favourite Biographies

I thought Alexander The Great by Robin Lane Fox was terrific. It was the main source Oliver Stone advertised when making his Alexander movie.

    Rosalind Miles: I, Elizabeth

I was wondering if it was an accurate recounting of her life but it seems to me that it's more fictitious. I have seen it many times in the bookstore but I think I would rather read the one by Allison Weir.

    40k words enough?

I don't continue to reply in posts with close-minded idiots. You guys aren't even trying to see my point of view. This conversation is over.

    40k words enough?

And you're probably justified and supported by 70% of the authors out there in not doing so but then again many will say that this is why you'll never be a mainstream author. I'm not saying to be arrogant and totally dismiss anything your publisher advises and at the same time I'm not saying...

    40k words enough?

I disagree. If you firmly believe your story is best told at a certain length rather than at any other you should always stand your ground. It's the privilege of the publisher to be your representative of authorship - not the other way around. If they think your piece of work needs to be...

    Martin Luther King

It seems the best one by far is The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. by Martin Luther King Jr. and Clayborne Carson. How many different autobiographies did MLK write anyway?

    40k words enough?

I don't think any author should be very worried about the number of words the story has as long as it contains the points you were trying to make. If you feel the story is too brief, write more. If all that needs saying is said and done, then so is the story.

    Edward Rutherfurd

My father (English) and my grandmother (Welsh) both love his novels. Eventually, I hope to read some but alas, they are just a few of many that are in my large 'to read' pile.

    Ayn Rand

I'm somewhat ambivalent towards Ayn Rand. I disagree with a lot of what she puts forth with her Objectivism Philosophy but I respect what she did with her life and her ongoing struggle to get people to open their minds and think more for themselves. I've only read one lengthy essay she wrote...

    Fyodor Dostoevsky

I've only ever read one novel by Dostoyevsky and that was Crime and Punishment. Turned out to be one of my most favorite novels and am eager to eventually read more from this great author. For those who are interested in such things, I have my own personal website which has a section for...

    Space Shuttle - For What?

Some good points here. It seems that any quest of exploration is always plagued by people who don't agree with it or, as is usually the case, people who don't understand it. To say space exploration in any way is a total misuse of resources is absurd because here we all are on computers...
