My favorite author from childhood would have to be Roald Dahl. I dont know why though. I've never been drawn to read any of his besides Matilda, The BFG, and Esio Trot (which I read recently).
I also really love Loius Sachar. He is so great. I love There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom and...
Hello All!
I'm having a difficult time sorting this out in my mind and would appreciate any thoughts and feedback. I guess I would consider what I write to be children's literature or perhaps young adult based on the subject matter. For instance, I am in the process of revising/rewriting a...
I wouldnt want my children (unconceived at this point) to read crappy children's literature. By that I mean, Goosebumps, Sweet Valley Twins, anything based off of a gimicky television show like Bratz (I dont even know if those are books). I am against literature that talks down to children...
I've only ever been able to get halfway through the book. For some reason, the odd names of the characters completely throw me off. It's not that the names in of themselves are weird, it's just the acceptance of them as viable names that gets on my nerves. For instance, nothing irritates me...
I have been reading contemporary children's books as well as some of my favorites from when I was a kid (which are also pretty contemporary). I find myself reading the books on being published to stay practical about the whole endevour. I want to stay on track with what is expected and what my...
Thanks for all the great advice so far. To make myself clear, I am writing what I consider to be a middle grade/YA book. I know there are certain classifications for each, but I disagree with the assumption presented in many books that children want to read about characters older than...
Hello All!
I'm currently in the middle of writing a children's book. Well if not in the middle, I'm at least at the beginning. I've been reading tons of books about getting published, including the 2006 Writer's Market and a Guide to Publishers and Agents for children's authors and...
My top three favorites would have to be:
1. The first Matrix, I have to watch it everytime it comes on tv
2. Radio, the only movie to make me almost cry
3. Perhaps my CATS DVD, I had a year-long love affair with it in tenth grade.
Miriam
Miriam awoke to the sound of an expertly thrown newspaper colliding with the front door. For a few frantic seconds Miriam registered her surroundings, unsure of where she was. All it took was a glance at her favorite belonging, a portrait of her father, and Miriam was instantly calm...
I read a book a few years ago and I thought it was just fantastic, but I cant remember the name. It's about an 11 or so year-old girl named Elvira (or something else equally horrible). She lives with her father in a trailer and they are pretty poor. One day while grocery shopping, she decides...
Favorite Book
My favorite book as a child was Matilda by Roald Dahl. I wanted so much to relate to her and the poor martyr she is. I also love the Harry Potter series. I still can't figure out how any one person could have such a complete world in their head!
