Great - I hope you really enjoy it. If you do also check out "Death of a River Guide" by the same author. Very different style of book, but a good read.
It's only a guess, but I would think that tiny flying insects, attracted by the light of the bulb, sometimes lay eggs on the bulb itself. The larvae - who would be microscopic in size I guess - can then squeeze into some tiny hold or gap in the bulb that we couldn't detect with the naked eye...
I don't re-read very much - there always seems to be something new and enticing around.......!
Off the top of my head, those that I've read more than once would include:
Catch 22
The Virgin Suicides - Jeffrey Eugenides
Goulds Book of Fish - Richard Flanagan (it has so many layers,a...
Any Jim Crace fans in this forum? I first discovered him two years ago when a friend recommended "Being Dead". I was so impressed with that book, I immediately read his entire catalogue. He has such a unique voice, and writes so compellingly. And few authors today seem able to cover such a...

Also - already mentioned - Snows...
Michel Faber ( Under the Skin, Crimson Petal and the White etc) is a stunningly original writer who nevers disappoints. Ray Bradbury is in a class of his own too - an absolute master who even today has few serious rivals in his genre. Those two would probably top my list.
Hi, new here. I've read Lullaby, Fight Club, Diary, Invisible Monsters, Survivors and Haunted. Survivors was a clear favourite for me, with Fight Club and Lullaby close seconds. Both Diary and Invisible Monsters seemed a little 'writing by numbers' for me - althought both were highly readable...
I'm Cindy from Sydney, Australia.
Stumbled across this site today, and it looks like my kind of place. I am a particular fan of short story collections. Currently engrossed in Michel Faber's 'The Fahreneit Twins" to be followed shortly by "The Elephant Vanishes" by Haruki Murakami...
