    Favorite Female Writers

Yes, Cornelia Funke is good - and characters can curse all they want without annoying me, personally. ;) I might also include Patricia Wrede, J.K. Rowling, Pamela Dean, and/or Holly Black if we count YA authors.

Susanna Clarke: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

I read a while ago - back in late 2004, I think, or early 2005. It did take a while to get into the world of "Regency England with magic," but I loved it when I did. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is my favorite book, period. I'm planning to re-read it sometime this year and am very much...

If I Liked Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (Fantasy Newby)

My suggestions: Little, Big (already suggested, but good) Lud-in-the-Mist (set in a fantasy world, but it had a similar English feeling, and I loved it) Stardust (I think this was one of Susanna Clarke's large inspirations - she wrote a short story set in the same world as this) Anything...

    Favourite Books

I've read The Kite Runner and The People's Act of Love. Liked them, though probably not enough to put on my list of favorites.

How Many Books Do You Read in a Year (approx.)?

This is the first year I'm actually keeping track of it (my list is at novelish.com/read-in-2007), but I'm up to 38 so far. I have a feeling I may have passed what I did last year already, since I've been reading a lot more recently. It'd be awesome to reach 100 this year, and that's kind of...

    Good place to buy books?

I buy from my local bookstore 90% of the time. - I like to support independent bookstores - They have an excellent collection of signed books (and I love signed books) - I can get a 20% discount there - so most of the time Amazon doesn't end up being that much cheaper

    Sicko by Michael Moore

I'm looking forward to seeing it, at least - I've watched all his other films and enjoyed them thoroughly. And everyone from Oprah to Fox News seems to like Sicko.

    Pirates 3: At World's End

I didn't agree with the critics either - At World's End was quite good, in my opinion. And I've heard a lot of people say that the sequels couldn't compare with the first one, but I was watching it a few days ago and I think Curse of the Black Pearl is probably my least favorite.

    Books similar to Tamora Pierce

What Patricia Wrede books have you read? The Enchanted Forest chronicles? If not, I'd suggest those; they remind me of Tamora Pierce in a lot of ways, but I actually liked them better.

    Late Night Reading

Well, I got Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at midnight and literally didn't put it down until I finished it. More because I've been following the series and I wanted to see what happens than because it's that gripping. Luna kept me up until around 1am. The Evening News kept me up until...
