Happy birthday to the Painter of Light™, born January 19, 1958.

I wrote this poem a few months ago. It's creation was inspired by D. D. who considers the PoL to be the epitome of all that is wrong in the art world… or maybe the whole world.

Dedicated to D. D.

Lighthouse! Lighthouse! burning bright
On a cliff top before night
What insipid eye and hand
Painted thee on that coastal land

From what seaside pert and trite
Burns thy never fading light?
Why shines a radioactive glow
From every little cottage window?

Who would Highlight* in whole, in part,
Thy towering form and call it art?
And also bring to life with such ease,
Pinkish plants and pastel trees?

What thy buyer, did he gain?
Emptied wallet with his brain
What the painter, did he sell?
Many prints and did quite well

When his gallery opened its doors
And sold like paintings floor to floor
Did he smile when his shite sold?
From ear to ear so I am told

Lighthouse! Lighthouse! On a wall
Or shining from inside the hall
What the breadth and the girth
Is thy resale value worth?
