I read of mice and men my freshman year, last year, and I couldn't stand it, the literature was alright, but the concept was pretty boring and ridiculously played out and predictable.

I just got The Lovely Bones after begging my parents to take me to borders and get me it. I read up on Wikipedia about it and saw it on the "Saddest book" thread and I wanted to find a good book that messed with my emotions.

I never take character/setting/theme notes, I usually highlight things that entertained/saddened me just to reread it later on. Taking a lot of notes would make reading more of a job than an enjoyment in my opinion, but hey whatever works.
When I was a couple years younger I loved:
Among the Hidden its around a 6 book series (kids love series' by the way, I hated anything that wasn't one) It's really good my #1 recommendation
The series of unfortunate events is also a very good one, Loved it, around 12 book series i believe.
