    Disagree with ending?

My only Patricia Cornwell novel was Blowfly, which I chose for the fabby title word. Imagine my dismay when the horribly portentous villain They titled it for suckers like me. >:(

    South Park

For me, part of that was the really specialized references. For example, the first time I saw the TrapperKeeper episode, I was like..trapperkeeper?? That, I think, is part of the "charm" of the show, that it's not one hundred percent obvious WTH they're talking about at all times. They create...

What new TV shows are you watching?

30 Rock, Flight of the Conchords What is so great about them? The first episodes of 30 Rock I saw, I could not keep my jaw off the floor, thanks to unbelievable cleverness, funny, but stunningly so. Flight of the Conchords is just, ever so quirksome. With the added bonus of, occasionally...

    Favorite Cookbooks

Tastespotting is somewhat uneven in that way, a person should be experienced enough to spot a problem in a recipe, or able to adjust them to suit, but as an idea generator, or if one wants to slaver a bit, that's the place. Plus, they are sometimes in languages other than english...but that's...

    Favorite Cookbooks

As long as we're discussing cooking, I thought I'd share my current favorite food site, tastespotting. It's so great when you don't have an idea for what to make - or when you want to stare at other people's cookery projects. The really great thing I like is that it is pictures, pictures...

December 2008: Vladimir Nabokov: Speak, Memory

I do have this book on my to-do list, but of his other books...I always keep a pen on hand and keep a word list on my bookmark whenever I read Nabokov. Some words require immediate investigation; ancillula, bloviate, etc. He helps create very interesting word lists. So does Martin Amis.:)

I am in Pluto, not the planet, and the guy from whom I was sentenced to learn the violin has just keeled over dead. How will I take it?

    Americans, vote Tuesday!

We out here were a bit weepy too, I must say. There was a bit of spontaneous public joy, even in our little town. Nearly all speechifying was memorable, historical, high road kind of stuff. Very happy. Very happy.
