Looking through my boxes of books that need reading i noticed i have a copy of Hannibal but no Red Dragon. Is Hannibal worth a read?

    Thomas Harris

I've just finished Silence of the Lambs which is the only Harris book i've read so far and i'm disappointed to read on here that its considered the best of his books. Unfortunately i don't think his writing flows very well. The dialogue between Clarice and Hannibal was really good but i found...

    Iain Banks

Right i've finished Surface Detail. Great characters, brilliant writing and a very interesting story line. I'm definitely going to grab any Banks book when i see them on my travels

Stephen King: Full Dark, No Stars

I'm not a fan of short story collections but i'll buy it and read it purely because i've got and read pretty much everything else hes written

    Stephen King: Cell

Started well but tailed off and the end was terrible. This is the only King book i put down and thought that was pretty bad.

    Iain Banks

I'm reading my first Banks book. His latest Culture novel in fact "Surface Detail". The dialogue is fantastic! The characters are fascinating and the story line really keeps you on your toes. If the other Culture novels are half as good as this i'll have to snap them up and devour them!

William Golding: Lord Of The Flies

Just started Lord of the Flies as a second read while i'm on my lunch at work. I've heard lots of hype about this book and because i wasted my time at school i never got chance to read it. I'm about half way through and i'm enjoying it so far

    Leo Tolstoy: War and Peace

Quite a while, about 4 weeks. I think the way it was written forced me to slow down so i could digest what was going on. It took me ages to get used to the 1860's language and style of writing and i gave up trying to remember all the characters!

    Leo Tolstoy: War and Peace

So i couldn't find a thread dedicated to War and Peace so i thought i's start one. Has anyone took the time to read it? I finished it a few weeks ago. I was watching a news program and heard that it was considered one of the best works of fiction of all time. A couple of days later i saw a...

Thanks for the welcome! Stephen King was my mums favourite author until she passed away in 2006. I'm not sure why but i decided to buy them all and read them chronologically and i am pleased i did! Man what a journey! Kiss the Girls was a random read. I get given a lot of books and i keep...

    James Patterson

Fascinating, i've just finished Kiss the Girls and wasn't impressed but i was under the impression that Patterson is a quality crime writer. The whole thing seemed to lack any depth and it felt like he was struggling to find a decent ending to it. Being like a trashy TV movie is spot on i...

Hi All, I stumbled across this forum a while back but didn't think i'd read enough to join. At the time i was on a mission to read all of Stephen Kings works so thought i'd pop back once i'd finished that and had chance to diversify a little and promptly forgot about this place entirely...
