    J.R.R. Tolkien: The Silmarillion

    Exactly the way I felt. I just couldn't get through it though. Much too tedious. If I'm going to be this hard on myself when reading a book I'd rather it be the "Good" book.

    Read the Introduction. Christopher Tolkien does a wonderful job preparing the reader who hasn't read The Silmarillion for what is to follow.
