Calvino is one of the literary greats of modern times. If on a Winter's night is a great book, but you have to concentrate. Try Marcovaldo, that's outstanding.

I read Bonfire of the Vanities and found it slow and bloated, I got about 300 pages through and gave up I'm afraid.

Wow, you guys have way more time than me - or I read very slowly. Last month was The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood - 3/5. Probably very good at the time, but just a bit boring for my tastes and I prefer a bit more plot.

I'm new here but just thought I'd recommend Hyperion for everyone - very good book.

My two cents: fairly unimaginative, over-used idea and hinged mainly on sadness. But I did 'enjoy' it overall. I read it whilst on holiday and had no dictionary to look up exactly what a sinkhole was, that threw me a bit.

Pen, because one came with my one-a-day crossword calendar. If I make a mistake I tell myself that I have to wait until the next day to try again!
