    John Steinbeck: East Of Eden

I read the book and tried to watch the movie (James Dean), and I just couldn't get five minutes into it. I did hear that Ron Howard is going to make another movie (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0419717/). I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing.

    John Steinbeck: East Of Eden

The best Christmas gift I've ever gotten was a mint condition 1st edition copy of this book from my wife. It's one of my most treasured items. I will hand this one down to the readers in my family!

    Chuck Palahniuk: Fight Club

This is the only book I've ever read where the movie goes more in depth than the book does. Good book. GREAT MOVIE!! I love Chuck, but his best work is Lullaby and Survivor!

    John Steinbeck: East Of Eden

This is one of my favorite books EVER! Just remember everyone: "Thou Mayest"

    Chuck Palahniuk: Rant

I fucking hated this book. Time travel in a Palahniuk book? C'mon! Chuck needs to redeem himself with his next novel because Haunted and Rant were HORRIBLE!! I heard that this was to be a series. If that's the case, I will not read another one in this series. Sucked ass, I tell you...

    Cormac McCarthy: The Road

This book is way overrated. There are far better post-apocolyptic books out there.

J.D. Salinger: The Catcher In The Rye

I did not enjoy this book at all. It gave me a headache. The slow decay until nervous breakdown. Too heavy for me, I guess.

In what order should I read these books?

Take the Mitch Albom book and throw it in the trash. It's sappy drivel, that is! He's a douche-bag author, also.

Most hated 'classic' novel you've actually read

I fucking hated 'Strangers on a Train.' Fucking waste of time!

The Most overrated fiction book ever?

Let me just put on my bullet proof vest here......ok, all set. I thought 'Catcher in the Rye' was horribly overrated. Didn't like it, wouldn't recommend it.

Alexandre Dumas: The Count Of Monte Cristo

Laughingman....yeah, I agree. That mini-series is good despite him. Thank God it wasn't Robin Williams!

Books that are just plain cool....

I figure I'd start a thread about books that are just great stories. Not overly heavy or scary, just kickass cool that you have a hard time putting down. I'll start by recommending a Few: Survivor - Chuck Palahniuk Lullaby - Chuck Palahniuk Odd Thomas - Dean Koontz Suggestions anyone?

Realistic Fantasy...is there such a thing?

Aisu....there actually is a "phile" for people who like to read: Bibliophile (FYI) A good sci-fi/fantasy book is 'The Traveler' by John Twelve Hawks. It's a trilogy, but only book one and two are released right now. The other one is 'The Dark River.' Good, realistic reads.

    Cultism

Hey Thargh, If you want a book about a cult, you may want to pick up 'Survivor' by Chuck Palahniuk (he's the guy who wrote Fight Club). That's got a good storyline about a death cult similar to Heaven's Gate. Very good read....and with a hidden ending, I might add! If you're looking for a...
