James Frey: A Million Little Pieces

Here's another author's response to this whole Frey mess. This is so wrong, but very funny in a very sick way. http://www.chrisgenoa.com You might not want to view this at work. There's a spoof on the A Million Little Pieces cover that is a bit naughty. The title is A Million Little...

    An astonishing foreseeing author...

I'd add Cory Doctorow to this list.

    Books to Movies?

I heard a rumor that Terry Gilliam optioned the rights to Chris Genoa's Foop!, but I'm not sure if that's a done deal. My brother is a production manager in LA and he gives me the gossip every now and then, but we all know how reliable gossip can be! If it's true that would be an incredible...

    Time travel

Chris Genoa's Foop! is a ridiculous time travel comedy. It's a great read, as long as you're OK with bizarre fiction. It's not traditional SF by any means. I'll also second RitalinKid's Vonnegut recommendations.

    Good reviews v/s bad reviews

I stopped paying attention to reviews some time ago after I realized that I disagree with a lot of the reviewers out there. A review is really just one person's opinion. Not only is it just one person, but it's also someone I've never met, so why should I let them decide if a book is good or not?

    Reading in June - Fantasy/Sci-Fi

I'm just about to start Eastern Standard Tribe by Cory Doctorow. I really enjoyed Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, so I'm looking forward to EST!

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

UTSteel, if you liked Just a Couple of Days (which I loved), you should check out Foop! by Chris Genoa. I read it recently and it reminded me a lot of Just a Couple of Days. I think that Vigorito's book is a bit more well written than Genoa's, but for me Foop! is the funnier of the two. I was...

Hitcher's Guide to the Galaxy -how does the film compare?

The main thing that I didn't like about the film was Marvin. To me, it felt like they got him totally wrong. Even though Alan Rickman (who I love) did the voice, the character just didn't seem right. In the books, I always remember getting excited everytime Marvin came around, because to me...

    Current Non-Fiction reads

I'm reading Salt: A World History It was given to me by a friend. At first I thought there was no way I'd like a book all about salt, but I'm really enjoying it. It's actually quite fascinating to learn about how big of a role salt played in world history. I like it so much that I...

Top Ten List Of Best Humor Books

I'd add A Confederacy of Dunces, Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, and Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal I'm not sure if these have staying power yet, but in time I might also add In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot and Foop!

    Greetings!

The weather in NYC has been quite blah lately. We haven't had much of a spring at all. Temps in the low 60s, rain...and before we know it'll be the blazing heat and humidity of summer.

    Which book scared you?

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski really creeped me out. There were parts of it that were really slow going, and the super unconventional structure can get annoying at times, but every now and then the book hits you with something that crawls under your skin and keeps you up at night.

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

I am a HUGE fan of funny books. Here's a quick list of some recent reads that had me laughing: In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot by Graham Roumieu Lamb : The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore The Losers' Club by Richard Perez Falling...

    Reading in May

I second the Jasper Fforde recommendation to any Douglas Adams fans. Fforde certainly isn't an Adams clone, but they have a similiar sense of hypercreativity and silliness. I also recently read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and thought it was excellent. Right now I'm reading Foop! by...
