    Self Publishing v/s Traditional Publishing

I would hardly call the money earned by those on Konrath's list of self-published writers (recently posted) to be mere "beer money", unless it be some extraordinary beer. Even if the earnings of some prove meager, most folks appreciate a bit of extra coin in a hard economy.

    Self Publishing v/s Traditional Publishing

Nicely put. It's amazing to me how merely questioning Amazon's autopilot book dealings immediately invokes a rash of bold italics.

Suggestions:May 2010 Book of the Month

Change of vote... After reading the wiki on The Road, I request to change my vote to The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks While the post apocalyptic trek idea is intriguing, I could skip the newborn being roasted over a fire by tribal cannibal Americans and be the better for it.

    Self Publishing v/s Traditional Publishing

I just wrote up a comparison article on POD self-publishing companies. I have a few books through Lulu and also on Authorcrossing. There's a link to my article on my blog. Lulu is a good choice for a self-publisher with zero dollars to spend up front, and they don't charge to upload a DIY...

    Your book activity today

Read through the last of my allotted titles and typed out six book reviews. Awarded my very first 1-star rating; if I could give it a Zero that would have been better.

The Orange Prize for Fiction 2010 longlist

It is rather humorous to think of fiction novel judges weeping over gregarious titles of depressing persuasion. After reading that I was inclined to find 'Make 'Em Laugh' on the iPod. Thank you for the link.

March 2010: Sara Gruen: Water for Elephants

Perhaps this is just me, but the beginning narrative reminded me very much of several of Jack London's stories in the tone of the reminiscing voice. Not that I minded; it felt pleasantly familiar. Once the memories got started however, I found it quite easy to watch the main develop through the...

March 2010: Sara Gruen: Water for Elephants

Since when does Hollywood shy away from 'gritty'? On a side note I found this bit o' rumor on the upcoming film: "A film adaption of the novel will begin production in June 2010 from 20th Century Fox and is directed by Francis Lawrence. The film is produced by Gil Netter, Erwin Stoff and Andrew...

I second The Road by Cormac Mcarthy. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks gets points for its ironic title, however. :-)

    Print On Demand company experiences?

I am compiling a comparison article for my weekly column Greene Ink on POD self-publishing companies. Wanting to write a more rounded piece, I am seeking a bit o' feedback from those who have actually had personal experiences with using/dealing with said companies. We've only had dealing with...

Major Publisher's eBooks sale model evolves...

Interesting article; I am curious how the term 'bestseller' includes books that are free? Here are a few statistical sites for actual revenue earned in the US (wholesale & retail) Wholesale eBook Sales Statistics The CITE: August 2009 e-book sales statistics Publishing eBooks: eBook Case...

The new economy of book publishing

Some publishers seem to think pursuing eBooks is yet worthwhile; Macmillan Press put out a blog on March 2nd, announcing that their entire sales model for eBooks is being re-vamped. The MP CEO also indicated they will likely expand to illustrated books and so forth, when the technology "moves...

    eReaders?

I didn't see a board dedicated to eReader/digital literature topics. Where would it be best on this forum to post a link to a column I've done up comparing several brands, pro & con?

Major Publisher's eBooks sale model evolves...

"Covered, indeed over abundantly, is the debate on the viability and growing popularity of eBooks. Stepping onto the creaking boards of the bandwagon, many large publishers now offer digital literature, whether through retailers or directly via their own websites… and it appears to be paying...
