I'm with you there. I have always stayed away from reading horror novels, and yet find myself reading some these days that are classified as such. I guess it depends on your description of horror. I imagined gruesome scenes and thrilling rundowns of the victims (the reasons I stayed away)...

"Dune" by Frank Herbert. Not so much the sequels, but I loved the first book. Same can be said about "Revelation Space" by Alastair Reynolds. Though I did like the following books in the series more then those with Dune. I also agree with the "Hyperion Cantos" being included.

Not an easy object, because it's subjective, but I would like to offer a few. "Fall On Your Knees" by Ann-Marie MacDonald, "Martin Sloane" by Michael Redhill, and "The Brothers K" by David James Duncan.

I will speak up that those older would possibly enjoy this series. I pre-ordered the last book from Amazon and will be turning 40 years old before it arrives. It's been a great series. The characters face many complex issues and the way they handle them has made the stories very compelling.

Good! Starting a new job tomorrow (Mon Feb 15). Was laid off nine and a half months ago. We were relocated for it, so I'm looking forward to the new adventures in a new city. And almost five months ago our second son was born. So things are good. How about you?
