    Audio books.

Yes, that's how they do it. Certain portions of the book are excised in a process known as abridgement. Sometimes the author is involved in the process of deciding what gets cut. Sometimes he isn't. If an audiobook says it's abridged, parts are missing. Personally I don't listen to those books...

    Audible Books

Audible.com's books are just like books on tape (or CD) except they are digital. Also, they can be read on many devices, not just iPods.

    The Bourne Identity Movie

Re: Bourne Seeing as how the first film gutted the book's plot, I can't imagine how a film sequel would resemble the second book at all. I thought just the opposite: Marie is a much stronger character in the book, and she also has much more depth.

    Favorite Quotes

"No one escapes from life alive!" --Michael Crighton, writing through a character in Congo "I like being a pessimist: I'm either right or I'm pleasantly surprised" --can't remember [Maybe insanity is just a minority of one.] --I can't remember the exact quote, but it is George Orwell...

Feeling Blue, Oh what to do?

Laugh! Some of my favorite humor websites: SatireWire - no longer updated, but the archives are very funny. Some material contains harsh language, but most stories do not. The Onion - updated Wednesdays, and the archives are just as hilarious. However, articles contain objectionable content...

    Bram Stoker: Dracula

This essay indicates that Stoker's research into dialects and accents was thorough.

    Jurrasic Park

I just finished Jurrasic Park. While I was impressed, I don't think it was outstanding.

I read novels on my PDA

I read eBooks mainly because I can take instant delivery of books, I can instantly look up a word by tapping on it, and I can carry my entire digital library on a CF card the size of a matchbook.

I read novels on my PDA

Seriously, though. What do you miss about physical books?

    Epistolary style

I have started Dracula by Bram Stoker. It is written in the epistolary style; that is, it is presented as a collection of diary entries, letters, and newspaper clippings. What contemporary novels use this style?

    Jurrasic Park

I loved Congo. It is one of my favorites of Michael Crichton.

Suggestion: tell us where you're from

I'm from Alabama, in the United States. Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and other southern states are regarded by the rest of the nation as backwards, full of hicks, uneducated, et cetera. I have a question for those living outside of the US: do you have regions in your country that are regarded...

I read novels on my PDA

I invert the colors (black background and white text) to make reading easier in the dark.

I read novels on my PDA

I actually do most of my reading on my Pocket PC with Microsoft Reader eBooks. Palm Pilots can use Palm Reader to read eBooks for their device. Does anyone else use their PDA for eBooks?

    Deep Thoughts

Nice, however... That essay was not by George Carlin (He actually called it a "a sappy load of s---."). Nor was it authored by a Columbine High School student, nor is it anonymously written. In fact, the essay was written by Dr. Bob Moorehead. For more information on this, see the Urban Legends...
