Smashwords boasting about one of it's authors

I quite agree, Sparky. I have the content for a book I want to publish (and need to find the time to do so) that is very niche. It's a historical collection pertaining to one particular, very small region in Pennsylvania. Not many would buy it b/c the market is so small; but I want to put it out...

Smashwords boasting about one of it's authors

I suspect quite a few. I would love to read a good book that's not "sellable."

Sparkchaser, don't ever go into publishing--we do lots of "wading." :)

Thank you so much for the links! I would love to visit these sites. I'll have to add them to next year's travel agenda... after my daughter's wedding!

    The Brontë Sisters

I've read all of the Bronte books and loved every one. The Professor was one of my favorites, but I think the best-loved is Villette. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte Villette by Charlotte Bronte The Professor by Charlotte Bronte The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte Agnes Grey by Anne...

    Everybody's an author now.

Wow, I had never heard of using fake publishers. That's sneaky.

Don't you read the free samples before you buy a book? That should give you an indication of whether or not it's well written.

    Which e-reader do you own?

I prefer a tablet because then I can load apps to read all types of files. If you have a reader you are stuck. Right? I have Kindle, iBooks, Nook, Kobo and a few other lesser-known apps on both my iphone and tablet. Plus, I can do other things on my tablet. It's like a mini computer. And it was...

    Does size matter?

Remember that page count and book thickness do not determine length. Font sizes can make a short book seem long at first glance. 80,000 words is an average size novel.

Smashwords boasting about one of it's authors

Hugh, I agree and disagree. There is so much bad writing in self-publishing that it can be difficult to wade through. But I have found some gems, too. It's so difficult for writers, even good writers, to get noticed by the big publishing houses. I applaud those who try to make it on their own...

    Everybody's an author now.

I completely disagree. After I bought my tablet I started reading self-published authors, and while there is a good deal of poor writing out there, I found some gems. As a reader it opens my options. The big publishing houses are over-crowded with submissions. Some good stuff gets passed by...

    Suspense/Thriller novels written by women?

I'm a Cornwell fan. She actually worked in the field of forensics before becoming and author. She also researches her subjects thoroughly. For an authentic forensic experience, I strongly recommend her.
