I'll be goin' on holiday in like a week,
so I need books (and lots of 'em)...
I would like to read some fantasy,
since i havent read a lot of it.
I have read the his dark materials trilogy, LOTR,
the never ending story (is this fantasy?) and probably a few more...
If someone can recommend some books that contain
wizards, dragons and magic swords then i would be most thankfull!
Im not interested in sci-fi elements, so no space ships please!
(they dont actually have to contain these things but you get the gist)
Dunno if that matters, but im 17 year old and eh.. male :)
Thanks y'all!

btw are those stephen king books from dark tower series any good?
any chance we've got dragons and magic swords is those?

The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King is not your typical Fantasy series. There is not much magic, at least not the one known to most Fantasy series. But it's a great series nonetheless that I think you would like. What it lacks in Dragons and Wizards it makes up with one kick ass character in Roland Deschain.

Oh, and Welcome to the Forums.

Welcome :) If you want a light read with plenty of magic and swords and what not, I suggest reading R.A Salvatore: http://www.rasalvatore.com/books.aspx?selection=5

In that order, they're a light but fun read while on vacation. They're kinda typical fantasy so no space ships what so ever. If you don't mind a little spaceshipyness ( I made that word up ;) ) you can try the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey, lots and lots of dragons in that one. If you like the humor / fantasy combination you can pick up some of the Discworld series, I would reccomend the Rincewind books and The Watch series.

Thanks you guys.. I think im gonna give salvatore a chance..
hey lukin, does it really matter in what order i read the trilogies..

and eh.. are, for instance, the dark elf trilogy and the demon wars series related to each other?

Stephen King's "The Eyes of the Dragon" was a real good, and not to heavy, read!

I agree about the Dark Tower Series, also. Roland of Gilead was one of the best characters I have read in a long time. Not really "Fantasy" though. More Louis Lamour than Robert Jordan!

and eh.. are, for instance, the dark elf trilogy and the demon wars series related to each other?

Forgive me, the question isn't directed at me , but no they are not. The Dark Elf trilogy is part of the Forgotten Realms line. The "Drizzt" novels are as follows and should be read as such:

-The Dark Elf Trilogy:

Homeland
Exile
Sojourn

-The Icewindale Trilogy (came out before Dark Elf, but one of the few instances in fantasy where you don't want to read published order)

The Crystal Shard
Streams of Silver
The Halfling's Gem

-Legacy of the Drow

The Legacy
Starless Night
Siege of Darkness
Passage to Dawn

-Paths of Darkness

The Silent Blade
Spine of the World
Sea of Swords

-The Sell Swords (this is the series RAS is working on now, Servant of tehe Shard has been out for awhile, but rerealsed again, to kick off a new series, chronicling 2 popular RAS characters Jaraxle, and Artemis Entreri. RAS is working on Book II of this series, Promise of the Witch King, which will be coming out later this year.

Servant of the Shard
Promise of the Witch King
(forthcoming)

-The Hunter's Blade

The Thousand Orcs
The Lone Drow
The Two Swords

His Demonwars work, is IMHO RAS's best work, but no where near as popualr as his Forgotten Realms work, this is how they should be read:

-DemonWars (1st series)

The Demon Awakens
The Demon Spirit
The Demon Apostle
Mortalis

The first 2 novels are available in omnibus format, to make reading easier.

-DemonWars (2nd series)

Ascendance
Transcendence
Immortalis

There is also another book, entitled The Highwayman that is a stand alone novel that take place in the DemonWars setting (the setting is called Corona BTW). It also occurs earlier in the timeline of the DemonWars work, but it's better to read it after the DemonWars series, for optimal enjoyment IMHO.

I used to enjoy RAS when I was younger - no so much anymore, but I want knock him, because I have a lot of respect for RAS and he is stand-up guy - just good people. Great work for younger heads.

Personally I would recommend (looking at what you enjoy), Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen work (one of the 3 superior current epic fantasy series being written IMHO:

Here are the titles:

Gardens of the Moon
Deadhouse Gates
Memories of Ice
House of Chains
Midnight Tides

Bonehunters (forthcoming)
Reapers Cale (forthcoming)
Toll of Hounds (forthcoming)
Dust of Dreams (forthcoming)
The Crippled God (forthcoming)

I think only up to Book II is available in the U.S, now but it may be Book III by now (if applicable, as I am not sure I get the UK version, much earlier release dates, and much better covers). Also in this setting is a recently released novel entitled Night of Knives set in the Malazan universe written by Ian Cameron Esslemont, that chronicles some important events that occur before Gardens of the Moon (not necessary to read before however) that was published by PS publishing. To see more info on that go HERE There are also some Malazan novellas that were available by PS publishing writen by Erikson, entitled Blood Follows and The Healthy Dead . I think the PS novellas are out of print, but NightShade Books has reissued them.

Ehm yea what he said  :D

Book III is supposed to come out late this year I think, if it is out I need to pick it up. it is a very good read but for a start off ? not that sure.
