Robert Jordan - New Spring

He's on book 10 now, there's no resolution AT ALL, and he publishes a PREQUEL?!?!?!?!?!

Please, Mr. Jordan, sir, hurry up and finish already!

couldn't agree more, i've had to re-read the series prior to the last book because I couldn't remeber what had happened.

I guess he needs some extra cash?

I read the short story this comes from, and I have to say that I actually enjoyed this book. It is a story that we know bits of from the rest of the series, but the book fills in some questions nicely. It was also a quick read since it was less than half as thick as his other books in this series.

I remember the first time I saw Jordan at a Waldenbooks. I passed him over and kept on doing it until about a month ago. I was desperate, what can I say? So I read Eye of the World and bought The Great Hunt wondering what in the world have I got myself into here.

Query: Should I read New Spring before I go on since its a prequel or go on and read the others first?

BTW, the US version looks nothing like the UK version. The US has a scene from the book on the cover. The cover art appears to be by the same artist as used on all of his other books.

Read a review somewhere, can't remeber where. It said that the book was well written, and not and muddled as the last couple in the WOT series.

Also that there will be a further 2 prequels to come.

Still feels like Jordan is milking it for all he can get. I would rather he finished the series.

My guess is he is lost on what to do next for No. 11 in the WOT, which is the reason for the last couple being muddled and not really achieving anything.

further 2 prequels? that's crazy...
if only he'd finish the series and stop me from buying all the books... guess that's how he makes money :p

This guy is crazy. I just read the whole "The Wheel of Time" Series (10 books) and I was kinda shocked to see that there's no end in the last book. The prophecy hasn't been fulfilled and it doesn't look like it will happen soon.

That's pathetic. After the first five books it all became a bit twisted and I stopped to read the chapters of everyone except Rand. There simply was no reason to wade through so much trash. But 10 books without an end in sight is really disgusting.

Knife of Dreams, Book 11, is listed as being 1000 pages long. I've read that RJ plans on wrapping up WOT in 2 more books. If this is true, those of us who haven't given up on this series are in for a whirlwind ride!

Well, I read somewhere that he said he needed a minimum of two books to finish it off.... If they're anything like the last couple of books, hopefully that'll be the maximum as well!

I know many readers have jumped off the Wheel of Time bandwagon. I have been disappointed in the last few books simply because of the lack of action. I just have too much of an emotional investment in the main characters to give up now. Also, I don't feel that this series is beyond redemption. I'm rooting for RJ to "raise the bar" with Knife of Dreams.

Knife of Dreams (Wheel of Time, Book 11) will be released in October, 2005. The review on Amazon.com looked pretty good, I hope so as I thought book 10 kinda drug out. :)

i totally agree, the series has gone on too long, but still i want to know how it ends, DAMNIT!!!

having read a new spring, very good book by the way, i can guess what one of the others will be, Rands father as he joins the Companions and marries and finds rand on dragonmount...

what Jordan needs to do is kill of a few characters... snuff out a few of the dozens of sub-plots and get to forfilling the prophesy in a spectacular and engoable way...

I absolutely couldn't agree more. A few years ago, when part 8 came out, I read it and saw the name Faile. I really had noo idea who that was, I totally forgot, so I reread all the books, (and came to the conclusion that I hate Faile annoying ****) because I forgot too much. And now with every new book of his, I have te reread all the series again.

I've owned Book 1 for some time because this series always seemed interesting to me. I'd think that if you really enjoyed his books that you wouldn't really mind if he kept them going, but do they really drag that much? Once I finish The Dark Tower series, I definitely will give this a go.

I've been tired of this series from book 5 or 6, but like a lot of you I just want to know how it ends for Rand and a couple of the others. The last couple books I've read(up to 9 I think), I skipped several whole chapters and will probably continue to do so for the remainder of the series. I've decided not to read another book till he's finished with them all though. I've already read this series 2 or 3 times because I keep forgetting who in the heck all these people are only to realize once I've read the books again that I don't care!

so did i and i only got round to reading those chapters the third time around

disagree

well i enjoy this series throughly, it is great and by skipping chapters, although maybe you wont miss much critical to the story, your appreicate of the characters will be diminished by missing the small details which helps to build the appeal of individuals who exist in this fantasy world.

This is not something to be entered into lightly, but for me it is one of the finest series around and i hope RJ writes another 5 books in this series, although it would be nice if he returned to the very strong form shown on books 1-4

After reading several posts I am getting worried about books 6 and up. I am just getting ready to read book 6. Does the story really slow that much? Also, if it is bad could someone recommend other books similar to books 1-5?

You could probably get as far as book 8 without being too bored, but after that it's a struggle where you only read them because you've read so far and want to know how it ends.
The only other fantasy that comes to mind is George R R Martin's "A song of Fire and Ice" and that is also a work in progress, but is much better than Wheel of Time. I'm sure that someone else can give you better recommendations.
