Thought I'd best say Hi. I'm a heating and Plumbing Engineer from Hastings, East Sussex.

I'm mainly into Science fiction and fantasy. My favourite authors at present are Raymond E Feist and David Eddings. My all time favourite is Terry Pratchett.

Welcome, Mike.

I like science fiction and fantasy, too. Though my preference leans more towards sci-fi than fantasy. What does Raymond E. Feist write? Any recommendations? I've never heard of him.

if we were to be friends....

would you be willing to fix this back up I have in my kitchen sink? (for no charge, of course :p ) ahh just kidding there mike. I don't know how you'd be able to service somebody in canada. it's always the rude hairy man who needs a shower that will be "my" plumber. last week he came over to fix my bathroom (my house is just full of surprises  ) and i offered him (in a subtle manner, of course) a "body" kit with shampoo, soap and an adorable little yellow towel with a bear on it. he said to me, "thanks, i'll give it to my kids." to which I replied, "no, no...this is for you." needless to say, my plumber never came back. :( that just goes to show; offending a plumber makes you feel really bad. -B

uh, sorry. welcome to the forum...

actully, all of my plumbers are rather attracive... wanna borrow one?
can I? but make sure they dont smell...the last one I had come over to fix stuff in the kitchen made me lose my appetite for food for a few hours. -B

..after which i devoured a whole hobbit (by myself too, thank you very much...)

Feist is most famous for Magician, and the resultant dozen or so books set in that world, some are quite good, The Empire Trilogy by Feist and Janny Wurts being my favourite, I am not a huge fan of Feist himself, I find his writing style to be a bit boring.

Hey Mike.

Welcome to The Book Forum. Quick question: what was that one-off horror story about The Wild Hunt that Feist wrote (after the "Magician" trilogy, I think)? Read it when I was fifteen or so. Lucky for me that you're a fan of him; hopefully your recall is clearer than mine. I remember it had a spider-thing changeling, or something. Good book, and quite a departure from his Tolkienesque fantasy.

Speaking of which, it's interesting that you should cite Feist & Eddings - probably two of the better Tolkien-"inspired" writers (putting it delicately) - among your favourites, but not The Man himself. I know quite a few people who read stacks of fiction that owes its exisitence to Tolkien, but who have never got further than the death of Boromir in LoTR (if that far). Where are you coming from on that one?

I think you're talking about Faerie Tale.

I've lost count of the number of times that I've read LOTR and the Hobbit. LOTR is my personal favourite book but I tend to cite other authors because I have read more by them.

I tend to go through phases of reading one particular author and then not read anything by them for a while so my current favourite varies.

my favourite Tolkein inspired author is George R R Martin. His Song of Fire and Ice series is amazing.

Sorry I haven't said hello yet Mike, but I've been sorting out a few little annoyances.

Hello and welcome :)
