What do you do with a book you've read?

I tend to keep mine on the shelves, but some of my friends give them away, donate them or sometimes sell them? I once knew someone who just through them away!!!

Do you ever re-read a book again?

I tend to keep the books I read as well (unless they're from the library of course  ). I don't think I could ever part with my books, even if I don't like it and will never read it again...

As far as the re-reading goes, I think I answered that question in the Library Sales Thread ;)

keep 'em! each and every last one of 'em lol (makes moving a pain :D)

i trade books with some of my friends, but always get them back

a ton lmao
if i buy it, i keep it... of course, if it's from the library, it has to go back :( lol

i just bought 2 bookcases a few mths back to put some of them on

i think i've had some books over the yrs that were given to me or my mom bought me at garage sales, that i didnt keep cuz they were very pathetic books lol... but other than those, i keep them :D

I keep all of my books and so does my wife. As we like different genre that means a lot of books. We both like to re-read them later. The study has book shelves on all four walls.

Keep em, I have my cant live without 6' by 8' bookshelf wherever I live and the rest are at my mum, a 10mtr hallway, lined with 7' shelves on both sides and double stacked :)

Totally! my friends HATE helping me move. Last time I had ~15 boxes.

I keep every single book I read, or end up buying it if I read it from the library and liked it.

Indeed, tell me about it. My family and I are packing right now, and we have so many boxes of books we're taking along. And we're taking a bit longer, because we're doing a sort of "book inventory" as well. It's one of the consequences of keeping all of one's books, but hey, they do decorate the shelves pretty nicely, and you know they're always there if you want to go back and check some reference. :)

I discovered last year, when I was living with a postie, that Australia post has these wonderful crates, made out of corrugated plastic, which are about 30cm deep, by 1mtr long, by 20cm wide, which hold plenty of books without breaking, and without getting too heavy. wonderful stuff when I move.

I keep the ones I liked and I donate the ones I didn't like to the library (I figure it's not because I didn't like them that other people won't:) )

I keep most of them. One time, I got carried away trying to clean up the house and sold a bunch of books at a garage sale. Later, I regretted it when I wanted to look up something in a book I'd sold. Now, I donate only the books I didn't like to the local thrift society.

I keep all my books, though I did sell a couple of boxes at a car boot sale before i moved countries about 5 years ago.

Currently i have 4 or 5, 7 foot book cases in the living room and another couple in the dining room full of books.

What I would really like is to create a reading room when i eventually buy my own house, with all the walls covered in custom shelves and comfy chairs in front of a log fire. mmm perfect.

This would be perfect!

I also keep all of the books I read, but unfortunately I do not have very many. About a year and a half ago, the apartment I was living in burned down, and I lost my entire book collection. I must say that I was quite devastated. I miss my books probably the most out of everything I lost.

Well I'd love to keep them all, however, my space is very limited so I keep those that were difficult to find, expensive, have sentimental value, of a particularly favorite subject or author, or are of a reference type. If I can only obtain a very tattered copy of a book I've wanted to read I donate it to the library's ongoing used book sale when I'm done (that is probably where I got it anyway...cheap too...usually about .25 cents.) The rest I want to get rid of I trade in at a used book store. It is horrible deciding what goes and what stays...It is like leaving your baby in a basket on a stranger's doorstep!

I'm in a similar position. We are limited on space in this house, and while I would love to have a study full of books, I am restricted to one bookcase. So I buy a years supply of books at a local annual 24-hour sale, read them through the year then release them or donate them back again. Unless they are Dick Francis novels, those I keep.

I don't even have a bookshelf. I keep some in boxes, some on a shelf in my closet, some on top of my armoire (sp?), etc. I hate to get rid any book. Who knows when I might want to reread them, even if it's years from now. But...I can't. That's one good thing about borrowing from the library. I don't have to make the decision whether it goes or stays. I know it has to go.

My wife and I have very different tastes in reading so its a rare occasion when we both read the same book. As a result, we've got bookshelves all over the house stacked two deep with books we can't bear to part with. Add this to the many cubic feet of books that come along with a couple of college degrees and pretty soon it looks like you live in a library. Which wouldn't be bad...

Well the last book I read for fun was the Sisterhood of the traveling pants. Well it sounds weird but my friends seem to like it. After I finished reading it I gave it to my friend to read it.
Bye
Alana
