What about the people who don't get their fun through silliness, banality and generally being daft? Well - do not participate. All the points you are making have already been addressed by others. Yes, this is a BOOK forum. i like BOOKS. So, I have gravitated towards a book forum.

Well, that's you, isn't it? Everyone is different. If you can't accept that, don't go on any kind of book forum that doesn't have strictly regulated rules.

If you have a problem with stuff turning up in other threads other than general chat, then talk to a mod about it.

Isn't the point of having the Chat area-devoted to non-book talk-to keep the book threads from being bogged down? What I liked(still do) about TBF is the variety of things to talk about under one roof. It seems to me that book people, more than anyone on the planet, have a wide variety of things to discuss. All of it, even the so-called non-book discussions, CAN be traced back to stuff we've read. It is impossible to please all the people all the time, but I think the mods do a great job of trying to do just that.

Don't like the forum? Go somewhere else. Don't like the threads? Well, report your fellow board users like the stick-in-the-mud you are.

Yep, that's the good, kind, welcoming attitude we've come to expect at TBF. We should just link newbies to this thread when they arrive. That way they'll know what they have to do to fit into the cliques..... post general rubbish and avoid discussing books.

Find one you like and revive it. Bring it back to life.
Start a new one....

The same bookstores that sell the Bible, and War & Peace, sell Howard Stern and Mad Magazine.If there's enough room on the shelves for those books how can there not be enough room at the forum for serious and not-serious?
