Dan Brown: Angels And Demons

This is a book is written by Dan Brown. Has anyone else read this book Angels and Demons? I just could not get into this book very well. Did anyone else have this problem when they read it or did you enjoy it? I'm just curious to find out if anyone else could not get into this book like me

PS: This needs to go in General Book Discussion. Sorry about that
RainbowGurl,
I found Angels and Demons very predictable, the writing mediocre and thought it was a book where you had to put your brain 'on hold' too much in order to enjoy it. I liked DVC because it offered some interesting ideas that I'd not previously thought about, so the poor writing didn't bother me so much -- not so with Angels and Demons. I read DVC first, then Angels and Demons. It's my last Dan Brown.

I just finished reading Angels & Demons early this morning. Wow! I was not expecting you-know-who (the-name-that-must-not-be-said...to those who have not yet read this book yet, no not Voldemort!) to be the villian! I found it rather sad, actually. I thought villians were supposed to be disliked? At first, it's like he's the scum of the Earth and then Mortati speaks up and it's like...Oh! Then you just feel sorry for em. Um, if that makes any sense, lol. Are spoilers allowed?

Anyways, this book rocks!

I read this one a while back, but I've got to say I found him to be incredibly unlikable. In fact, from the get go I pretty much figured it would be him.

I liked the somewhat-palindromic text that you could read when flipped upside-down. Other than that...

I really really liked DVC, however I found Angels and Demons to be incredibly similar and aggravatingly formulaic, and I would have felt that way about DVC had a read A&D first. That being said, I did enjoy them, just didnt find them to works of staggering genius

I also read A&D after DVC. Strangely, I read DVC quite quickly, but made a bit of a meal of A&D, reading it on and off over a long period but when I finished, although it didn't hook me quite so much, (due to the book or perhaps outside influences) I felt A&D was the better book. A lot of people say A&D is too much like DVC, (including some on here) which, while true, isn't entirely correct, since DVC was written after, just with a little more controversy to set it apart. Enjoyed both, but more for the little tidbits of things I hadn't thought about or didn't know about the church than the story itself.

This is great. I feel like I can openly discuss Dan Brown without a public caining.

I think Angels and Demons was superior to The daVinci Code... at least more interesting, and offered more history, instead of just action, action, action...

I agree; although, I may be a bit biased since I spent 2 weeks in Rome (my favorite city in the world). I found the book to be a fun read. I was able to retrace my steps of my vacation through the book. I liked A&D over TDC.

I didn't really care for him either, I just felt sorry for him. I thought he was really pitiful. For some reason though, I could not lay my finger on who the actual villian was until the end.
I was actually thinking the Illuminati played a roll in all of this, little did I know it was only the Illuminati artifacts at the hands of Carlo Ventresca's crazed puppet that had anything to do with the killings.

I also thought the ambigrams were pretty cool. I tried it with my name, but with no success. Ugh, I have too much free time on my hands...lol. :p

i liked dan browns books overall but angels and demons was definitely the best of his books (although angels and demons was extremely similiar to davinci code) except i absolutely hated deception point

Got to agree with the majority of opinions on here. Deception POint wa shis worst. Yes Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code are similar but if you like the one there's no reason you shouldn't like the other-just read them apart! Not many people mention Digital Fortress; probably less controversial than the latter and personally my favourite-even if what somewhat predictable.

I gave up after a few chapters:eek:

I don't like his style of writing at all but I will try and read the Da Vinci Code to see what all the hype is about.;)

i have a copy of this book, but i am yet to read it

And when you finally pick it up to read it, you'll wonder why you waited so long....just like I did:)

I have just finished reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. I found it to be an enjoyable read, if not a very well-written one. I have to agree with those people who argue that Brown has a repetitive plot, though - this book reminded strongly of The Da Vinci Code at points.

I did enjoy reading all the historical and general fact tidbits, but at times I got the feeling that Brown was rubbing this information into our faces, almost as if to say "Look at how much stuff I know.. arn't I smart!" A lot of the little facts that were thrown into the book were unnecessary, and seemed a little out of place.

I didn't much care for the ending. A little repetitive and could be seen from a mile away. I also thought that it dragged out a bit much, with the same things being revealed and spoken time and time again.

I don't think that I'll be picking up either of the other two books by Brown, espeically after hearing a lot of bad things about them. Has anyone heard when the release date of the movie The Da Vinci Code is?

Science Vs Religion

I have now read all of his books and loved Angels & Demons the most and you dont need to read it before you read the Da Vinci Code although most people think you do because it has the same lead character. It really got me thinking about Science vs Religion. It made me want to vist Rome and Vatican City. I loved the whole thing with the mysterious Illuminati and it gave you an insight into how the cardinals elect a new pope.

I have now read all of Browns books and say that Angels and Demons was is his best book. It is actually the only one of them I really enjoyed!

I've just been reading this which is an extensive, though incomplete, list of errors made by Dan Brown in Angels and Demons who, despite seeming to get nothing right, claims to have spent two years researching the book and that everything is factual.

You've touched on what made Brown's books a washout for me. For something touted as being so well researched, these books are so full of holes one could drive a Mack truck through them.
