I'm currently reading Stephen King's "The Stand" and I don't want to put it down. It's a very long and deep book but so amazing.

One of my favorites. The only other King book that comes close is It.

Currently about 2/3 of the way through the third book in the Chronicles of Narnia (The Horse and His Boy). Next up is Life of Pi if someone at my public library would return the damn thing. I am #1 on the hold list with four copies checked out.

I started Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov this morning:

Amazon.com
Despite its lascivious reputation, the pleasures of Lolita are as much intellectual as erogenous. It is a love story with the power to raise both chuckles and eyebrows. Humbert Humbert is a European intellectual adrift in America, haunted by memories of a lost adolescent love. When he meets his ideal nymphet in the shape of 12-year-old Dolores Haze, he constructs an elaborate plot to seduce her, but first he must get rid of her mother. In spite of his diabolical wit, reality proves to be more slippery than Humbert's feverish fantasies, and Lolita refuses to conform to his image of the perfect lover.

I've been looking forward to this one for awhile. Still keeping my fingers crossed that it holds in lead in the BOTM voting :D

I just finished reading "Gorgias", written by Plato... I love this dialog more than any other... It's as if all bets were off, and Socrates just dropped his gloves... Finally, no beating around the bush... He just comes right out and tells them that they have no skill... Wonderful... :)

I'm reading the "Moscow-Petuski", by Venedikt Jerofejev. I currently finished the Puskinland by Dovlatov - does anybody like him? I think he is a very good writer.

Hmmm, sounds good. It will go on my TBR list.

I am currently reading "Handling Sin" by Michael Malone. I don't know if I will finish it as there is too much "chatter" and I get impatient for the story to continue. The book is very long and i am not sure I will make it to the end.
I finally stopped reading Handling Sin at page 192 and threw it aside. I am now reading The Red Heart by James Alexander Thom. I am about 35 pages into the book and love it. No doubt I will be reading more of his books. :)

The Girl With A Pearl Earring is a good book. I read it in about 6 days, but it was still interesting.

Can you (or anyone) tell me how to pronounce the main character's name, "Griet"? Not that I'm reading the book aloud, of course. ;)

I've taken to reading A History of Pirates as late night, before-I-go-to-bed reading. Also I have started to read Breakfast on Pluto by Patrick McCabe. I was wondering if I could wait and see the movie since it has my new celebrity beloved Cillian Murphy, but I am weak and wished to read the book in the meantime.

I started The Captain's Wife by Douglas Kelley last night thinking I'd just read a couple of chapters to get it started before bed. When I reached chapter NINE..I thought I'd better get to bed! I thought it was just me, but this morning, my dd picked it up just to see if it was something she wanted to read, and put it down when she realized she'd read about 13 pages, and she really needed to get ready to go..Its safe to say The Captain's Wife is hard to put down.

Weekend Warriors. I wanted to get a copy of Lolita but not having much like finding the copy I want for a decent price. Gonna keep looking though:D

I started reading it at the beginning of this quarter but seminar work prevented me from finishing Lynda S. Robinson's Eater of Souls, the fourth installment in the Lord Meren mysteries. So I've finally got the time to pick it up and finish. ^_^

i've been trying to get into the Green Mile by stephen king but it hasn't completely gripped me yet. i started reading wasted - marya hornbacher in class today.

I just started reading How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas Foster and after only four pages I was completely blown away! Kid you not! Now after only seven pages more, I am more convinced than ever that I have to tell you: "Drop everything! Run, don't walk, to your nearest book source and beg, borrow or buy this book!" It has to be the most easily accessible and enjoyable introduction to the appreciation of literature that I have ever seen.

And when you enjoy it, think of Miss Shelf. It was her suggestion in the first place, in her shortlived Similarity or Plagiarism thread.
Don't delay,:)
Peder

Thanks for a valuable suggestion! We date ourselves slightly with Jack Paar's favorite expression 'I kid you not'. I watched him all the time when I was age 11, 12, especially in the summer, when I could stay up late.
