Question Game

I recently read somewhere that Christmas was long banned by many religions as "pagan" and "anti-christian". Only since about the 1920's has it been a National Holiday, and then only because retailers wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to peddle their wares.

I think Christmas is as commercial as we make it. It is up to us to make it what we want it to be.

What are your fondest holiday memories?

One of my favorites is the Christmas Day when my nearly 21 year old dd was about 6 and she asked her dad if he was the one who REALLY gave the presents she thought were from Santa(we'd always said Santa was a game anyway) and he paused for a moment, then told her that yeah he was the one.. and she nearly broke his neck hugging him. He said, "That's it, from now on I'm taking all the credit. Santa can look out for himself!"

What gift would you like to receive that money really can't buy?

I guess something like "World Peace" or "the love of my estranged son" would be appropriate here, but I would rather be honest. I would like to be able to write for a living and be financially independent enough to make decisions based on what was right, and not what was financially prudent (like what college my daughter can go to, or whether my wife must continue to work)

What is your answer to this question?

I'd like to have my wife's family and mine together for christmas-everybody!.

What's your favorite thing to eat during christmas time?

Worst Christmas ever?
The last few haven't been so hot. Christmas 2000 was just a month after my darling grandfather passed on, and the next 3 I spent in Canada away from my family. Last christmas I flew home to have my first christmas with family in 4 years, but it was somewhat bitter-sweet as another family member was very ill and it would be the last time I saw him. This christmas I'm again going to be away, unfortunately, spending it with the inlaws here in Canada. Not exactly a 'worst christmas ever', but the holiday hasn't been 'right' for quite some time.

Worst Christmas ever?

The worst Christmas ever was 22 years ago, when my oldest dd was tiny. My mom was in the hospital for the second time since Thankgsiving. She'd had pnuemonia and had a collapse two days after getting out the first time. She nearly died, and was in medical intensitve care for two weeks. I'd gone out to my uncle's for Christmas Eve like I always did, family traditions can be a horrible noose sometimes. My dh was working overtime and covering someone on second shift that night, so he dropped me off and was to pick me up when he got off at midnight. My cousins cornered me just before the Gift Exchange and demanded to know why I wasn't spending more time up at hospital with my mom. As I tried to explain that I had a tiny baby and no one to leave her with during the Christmas rush, my other cousin's wife piped up and offered to watch her. To which this insensitive cuz, said, " See, all you had to do was ask!" ( Like the other relatives were not perfectly aware of my situation?) Then he made me sit next to him during the gift opening, and he kept remarking how great it was to be home with "everyone together"..Everyone? My mom and husband weren't there! I cried all the way home after dh picked me up. We decided that I'd just stay home by myself with the baby the next day while he worked the day shift on Christmas Day( rotating swing shifts).
My mom got out of the hospital the day after Christmas.

If you had Donald Trump's credit card for the day, what would you do with it?

Buy a house, a car, tickets for a trip around the world - first class of course :D -, prepay university, go on a book/clothes spree and and put a few million away in my bank. I don't think I'd have much left of the day after that.

What did you want to be when you were younger, and have you lived up to that dream?

A lawyer and a nurse. (odd, I know) And no, I ended up having my daughter when I was 19 when I was taking a year off from school. Ooops. lol

If you and your family could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

the place where we live right now, i wouldn't want that my family has to give up everything they have...

but for me, it would be Florida or HongKong (sp?)

Before entering the bathroom, I always push the door right to the wall to make sure that no one is hiding behind it. I got too many frights from my siblings when I was younger, and now I feel uneasy if I don't do it. Wierd, I know.

Same question again.

I always think of numbers whenever I look at my reflection in a mirror in a dark room. This is my safeguard against thinking (or saying) a ghost's name and therefore allowing said ghost to appear in the mirror and break through *sheepish grin* I read a scary story about that when I was smaller and I guess it stuck.

Did you ever go camping and if so did you like it?

Yes, on my Year 10 camp to the Boyle river, and no, because I froze my butt off all night because it was snowing outside, and then the tent blew down at 4 in the morning.

Where is the most beautiful place you have ever visted?

I have to be completely covered when I sleep, head and all even in summer. Has to do with a scary story about a werewolf I was told when growing up.

I have a fear of slipping when climbing down things, no matter how sturdy the thing I'm climbing may be. It's not a fear of heights - I'm fine climbing up and even when I'm at the top of things - it's just when I come to climbing down that I freeze up a bit and climb down vveerryy sllowwllyy

Would you cut off your hand for 100 million dollars?

I would cut off my hand for $100 milliom.

Not a spur of the moment thing, either. I have actually had conversations with my best buddy about this. He would not cut off anything for any amount of money.

$100 Million could buy a real nice prosthetic.

Would you kill someone for $100 million, even if there was no possible way you could get caught?

No. I have a very loud conscience and even though the money would be nice, I couldn't live with myself.

Yeah I got scammed once because I believed some guy's story about needing to get home to his kids and not having money for gas. I was a college freshman, oh well.

Has a complete stranger ever asked you something personal and if so how did you respond?

A person whom I had just met at my wife's company Christmas Party said "Oh, nice to meet you. So, how much do you make?"

I was a little floored at her bluntness, and her unusual choice for opening lines. I just kind of stared at her for a minute, and said "Enough to pay the bills".

What is the most embarrassing thing you have said to a stranger?
