The Box... (a poem?)

[ the box ]

set down on my porch
a small brown box
inside, i don't know
it could be for me
or someone else
perhaps placed by mistake
no address
to or from
a sealed cardboard container
about nine inches cubed
shaken, something within
thuds around
quite heavily
an unknown mass
raising intrigue and curiosity
as i toss it to and fro
should this box be replaced
back onto my porch
for someone else to find
shall i just open it
a knife would do justice
to slice apart the tape
and i could peek inside
if only i had eyes
but they're back with my head
which i misplaced long ago

I thought it was interesting, SirMyk.

I like the style of its simplicity.

Now I have to know what was in the friggin' box?!?

And always a little twist at the end!

maybe it's a bomb? In which case, the box shouldn't be shaken. In this day and age, if I got a box on my porch with no address or any markings, I'd call the bomb squad.

Unassuming and without pretention. I like it.

I can't help but be reminded of the movie, Se7en, when you mentioned the idea of the head in the box, though. I must say that wasn't a thought that immediately occurred to me.

I didn't either, until the final lines of the poem.

By the way, what ever happened to leckert?
