Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle

I read these to my older kids when they were in kindergarten and first grade. They loved them. Thanks for the reminder, I think I'll go see if I can find one of them in depths of my basement!

I was just looking at B&N.com for them, there is a treasury that is sold out (it was published in 1996). I want a brand-new one, so I hope they publish one again! I loved those books when I was a kid.

Have you tried some of the other online stores? Amazon may still have it, and Abebooks is a great resource. I also like overstock.com and half.com. Surely somebody has one..Good hunting!

Thanks-found some possibilities on Amazon! :) It'll look good next to my Curious George treasury. :) Second childhood is wonderful! ;)

I'm glad you found it! You're so right about second childhood! One of the perks of homeschoolling is I have the perfect excuse to buy books for any age group I want;)

where can I get me some kids to homeschool? They'd have to go home at the end of the day, though. :D

Ha! Sorry it doesn't work that way..I keep thinking that schoolbus looks good, you reckon they'd notice if I got on???

Yay! I love Mrs. Piggle Wiggle! I read them out loud to any kid who will sit reasonably still. The Radish Cure is my favorite, and once you get through the whole series, the What'll-I-Doers brings it all together. A classic.

I loved Mrs. Piggle-wiggle! We read them in grammer school.

You know, I didn't really think about it until now, but those were the first books I'd read that dealt with death (the passing of Mr. Piggle-wiggle, although he died before the series takes place, makes many of the events in the books possible)

When I was little and we would have substitues we would always have "read-aloud" Mrs. Piggle Wiggle stories. I had always thought that they were only stories that the substitues could buy until I saw them in the library three or four years ago! Sadly they aren't that popular anymore, everyone used to know Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle was the first book I ever read completely on my own. I LOVED it! I had the whole book memorized, as I remember now. It deserves a place on every child's bookshelf, between Harry the Dirty Dog and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

It depends upon what circle you're involved with as to if they are popular or not. As a homeschooling family, we have many friends and family that have read and love the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle series. These books were the first "chapter" books my kids would listen to and has allowed me to introduce other "long" childhood favorites. (in the eyes of a six year old).

So, what other childhood favorites do you all have?

I love the Chronicles of Narnia - my children are enjoying them, too, as I am rediscovering them. Although, it was like pulling teeth getting through The Horse and His Boy, but the next one, Prince Caspian, has recaptured their attention.

I absolutely love Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle! I just found my old copies of the books a few months ago and re-read them all. My mom sent me a bunch of my books from when I was little for my daughter to have as she grows up, but I think I'm enjoying the books more than she is. ;) I keep being tempted to try the slow-eater-tiny-bite-taker cure on my toddler who doesn't like to eat food anymore. Not having access to a pony, however...
