Book nerd level

I just noticed that you are reading "Colour Of Magic".....enjoy.:)
Thanks .. I am so far :)

Have you read many of Pratchett's books. Sorry for interrupring the thread. :)
The only other Prachett I have read is Going Postal, which I enjoyed immensely. I have tried to read TCOM twice already, but have only managed to get halfway both times - it wasn't the quality or lacktherof, just that I wasn't in the mood for a book like that and other books kept coming along that I wanted to read more. Reaing one of his better books helped too, I think, and I will definately be reading more of Prachett. I have heard that the Death books are good, as well as the ones on the city watch, so I might try one of those next.

I too love the smell of books, but only if they are new. I wouldn't dare smell some of the books I get from the library.

However, I have to say that I don't spend time gazing adoringly at my books, or stroking them lovingly. :p Just reading them is enough for me. ;)

Not sure what behavior could be classified as weird enough to frighten other book nerds. I usually have a book with me wherever I go.

My best friend said that he was scared of me when I get around books, but I don't know why that is. Maybe I get too excited seeing all the wonderful titles on the shelves at the bookstore? Squealing like a fangirl, running my hands across the spines, admiring the bookmarks available...

My mother works at a library and she brings me home the discarded books that she thinks might interest me.

Lucky you!! :D Have you got any good books out of it? :)

I've just joined this forum today, and I'm just SO relieved; For years I've always thought my love of books was somewhat unusual, and now I find that I'm not alone!

Of course I catalogue what books I've read. This probably does sound crazy to someone who reads a book a year, but when you read about a book a day, it's a necessity because it's impossible to keep track of what you've already read otherwise.

I like nothing better than going to either the library or a bookstore and coming home with a huge sackful of books. I then head for bed, choose which one I'm going to start with, but have to have all of the others piled around me. If I don't have at least 6 books waiting to be read, I go into panic mode that I may run out.

Someone earlier in this thread said that they always take more books than they need when going on vacation. Well, in my mind, you can never have too many books. Don't feel guilty about it - enjoy them!

I have books stashed everywhere - just in case, you understand! It's compulsory for me to carry 2 with me wherever I go, there's one in the glove compartment, 4 on the bedside cabinet, whole shelves full in the office, boxes in the loft.....

I remember when I was at school, our english teacher instructed us at the beginning of the school year that we had to write a report on every book that we read and keep it in a folder. He said he would collect them towards the end of the school year. You should have seen his face when I handed in about 200 book reports!

Oh, I'm just so glad I found this site!

I don't have enough room to catalogue my books like that, but I did an inventory of them on my computer to keep track of them if I ever move. I have books on really weird subjects...for example, I just bought one on the history of symbols in all different civilizations. But since I'm the only teenager I know who has a library built into part of her room, I think I can honestly say I'm a pretty big book nerd.

hey, i'm a teen with a library too! and a book on symbolism actually sounds interesting. lol

and i do take too many books on vacation, and have too many books in a pile that in eed to read, i always borrow or bring home more boooks then i can read very soon. also, my books are organized in a way on my shelf so that they're really not organized but i understand the order they're in and why each book is here or there. once, i went up to my english teacehr becasue i didn't have any books with me at school to read(i had finished the one i did have) and i went "there's been a disaster. i dont' have anything to read!!" (which is, like, not normal form me).

Interesting thread! When I go out to the movies, I get there early for a good seat, and read while I'm waiting. This is getting harder, however, because the trailers are now starting sooner--or is that my imagination?
I arrange my novels alpa. by author, nonfiction by approximate category, and periodically make hard decisions about which ones need to go--otherwise, I'll be buried, and the place will be a fire hazard!

I read whenever I have a spare moment (these people who complain that they "don't have time to read" are just not trying hard enough!). I often take a book with me on my morning walk, and I got a very strange look the other day when I bumped into a telephone pole and said "excuse me". I am just not that engaged with live people - the ones in books are much more interesting to me - but I guess I probably should pay a bit more attention to where I'm going.

i confess to being a book-sniffer. i am also anal about how my books are arranged, I have a system in my head and lord help anyone who might go in behind me and move things about, lose of limb is certainly a possiblity.

This reminds me of when my sister and I used to read books on the way home from primary school. It was a good half hour walk, so we'd just walk the whole way with our noses in books to make the time go quicker. I can't even count the number of times we almost got run over, though :D

I also like the smell of books! and the feel of them and the look of them! :D
-Only thing I dont like, is the price of them!

I have another nerdy thing I tend to do. When I find an author I really like, I make it a project to read everything they have written, and I have caught myself talking about the authors as if they were friends of mine. I tend to do this as I feel I get to know the author so well from reading all their material. Anyone else doing the same thing?

Oh, with my busy classes I haven't had much time to read them, but a few of the titles she brought me were things like Uncle Tom's Cabin and Roots (both are books I've been meaning to read for years). Also a falling-apart copy of Kubler-Ross' On Death and Dying (I've spent way too much time in psychology and sociology classes to be interested in this).

Heck, I feel WAY lazy! I used to save all my library receipts, but I had no special spot for them, hence an annoying mess. So I quit that and have been looking for a good alternate system that's neater, yet just as effortless ... YEAH, RIGHT! I have half a mind to start an index card companion box to my book list box and as each card is complete, transfer ... hey! All I have to do is line them out on the list and it's all done! What a revelation, all here on TBF! Yeah, lazy me, I guess I'd rather be reading too.
