Have any of you read him?

I've just read 'the heart is deceitful above all things'. I couldn't put it down. But then felt a bit disapointed. Any of you read his first book 'Sarah'?

Yep.
I thought 'The heart...' was pretty good. Been meaning to read 'Sarah' for some time. Why were you disappointed? (Don't give anything away). I thought it was grim - very grim - in places. But worth it, on reflection.

Now - put that cancer-stick out! ;)

I haven't read JT Leroy, but have certainly noticed all the hot and airy press surrounding whether JT exists, and whether it's male or female. What a load of bullocks. Considering how many authors use pseudonyms, what's the big deal? Guy goes out in wig and glasses?

Bollocks is the word. :) I wasn't aware of any such press nonsense surrounding him/her/it. Sounds like a big load of hype to me.

I wouldn't slag anyone off until I'd made my own impressions.

I hadn't heard of him, just picked the book up at random. I found out after reading, on google.

I don't know why I felt disapointed about the ending. It seemed too far fetched I suppose.

I read Sarah yesturday. It was short (no chapters), fast paced and pretty grim. I liked it ok, it was a story you didn't want to put down, since it didn't really have any pausing points. And it managed to have a lot of detail for being a quick action filled story.

I'll have to look for the other book.

'sarah's on my list, but has been bumped down because of the hype surrounding leroy. On the whole I'd recommend 'the heart..'

Jt LeRoy

I've read both "The heart" and "Sarah" and i loved them both. I couldn't put it down. I highly reccomend them to anyone. Jt also wrote "Harolds end" and its on my list to read. but Im sure it is good. Jt is a wonderful writer and I admire his work.

The Heart, is being made into a movie, I saw this on Netflix-

Raised by caretakers other than his family, the young Jeremiah (played alternately by Jimmy Bennett and twin brothers Dylan and Cole Sprouse) is taken from a foster home and delivered to his mother (director Asia Argento), a troubled teenager. But a nomadic life on the road with his own flesh and blood proves almost as traumatic as living without it. Peter Fonda co-stars in this independent drama based on the novel by J.T. Leroy.

Release date is unknown.

The movie adaptation of 'The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Thing' was finished in 2004 (IMDb)

The release date that the site refers to might be the release of the DVD perhaps.

I looked at Wolhay's link and it looks like it is pretty good, I will try and see it when it comes out. I always like watching the movies after I read the books, I almost always like the books better but still have to watch :)

Thanks for jogging my memory big world. I've not read it yet, but definitely will now.

Oh you're welcome. I'm happy that i was told about LeRoy and was recommended his books. So I'm perfectly happy recommending them to anyone else.

I'd also recommend Candy by Kevin Brooks, and Smashed by Koren Zailckas.

Candy is about this guy, Joe, who meets this girl, Candy, who turns out to be a girl stuck in a world of prostitution and drugs. Joe's life moves forward when his band gets a record deal and needing Joe's involvement, his sister and her boyfriend are getting married, and trying to keep his grades up in school, Joe puts his life on hold and tries to help Candy out of her world and away from her pimp Iggy.

Smashed is about a girl, Koren, who had her first drink at the age of 14. While her friends come and go, using her, she spins out of control. She gets into college and goes to the bar 5-6 nights a week, joins a sorority, and has drunken sex with someone she can't even stand--- completed with nightly blackouts and the morning after hangovers. As she tries to pull herself out of the stereotypical college parties, she finds herself being pulled back in.'

These books are very well written and I would recommend them to everyone.
I'll post more book suggestions soon!
