Labyrinth

This was a movie made in the 80's with David Bowie in it. I saw a cool-looking postcard from it at Hot Topic, and one of the girls there was telling me about the movie. I was wondering if anyone had seen it, and if they had, if it was any good. I heard it was supposed to be weird, but Rocky Horror and Monty Python are some of my favorites, and someone else told me it was similar to the Princess Bride, which I love. Comments please? :D

great movie, I grew up w/ it and still love it. it's almost all jim henson creatures, w/ a young jennifer connolley and david bowie - great stuff, haha I love it and still sing the songs from it sometimes.

It's a great movie, particularly if you like David Bowie and/or The Muppets. I suppose I can see some similarities between it and The Princess Bride. I'm surprised, I thought it was like The Goonies, in that everyone in the world has seen it a zillion times.

It's all about the crotch of Sir David Bowie :D

I enjoy the film but of course it's through the rose tint of youth, I'm not sure how well it stands up today.

:D :D Ahem...

Labyrinth is an excellent film! Catchy songs, Pythonesque humour and a good storyline. :)

XD! Watched it last night; know exactly what you mean. David Bowie was H-O-T. I talked to my friend Melissa about it and discovered it was her favorite movie--she says her first big crush was on the Goblin King, and she apparently never really got over it.
Jennifer Connely was very pretty too. I didn't like the baggy clothes, but I loved the dress she wore in that one part.
All in all, it was a very good movie. The only thing I don't like besides the clothes is the muppets. It was hard to take it seriously with all the cutesy characters, but the acting was great, so I can ignore it. It was made in the 80's after all. Poor Goblin King, though...*huggles* That's alright, he can be one of my boyfriends now!
Goblin King: O_O
Kat: ^-^ *throws him in cage with the Phantom of the Opera, Legolas, Westley, Neo, Frank N. Furter, and Jack Sparrow*

Maybe it's because I first saw it as a kid, but I loved the muppet creatures in this movie. Favorites include Hoggle (I think that was his name), and also the little snail-catepillar-thing who gives Jennifer Connolley directions at the beginning ("'Ello!" :)). Oh and those hands that make talking faces and kept letting her go in that scary shaft scared the heck outta me as a kid! I also love the little doggie who is a knight...hehehe makes me giggle just thinking about him. And the pack-rat goblin-witch-chick was another creature that scared me as a kid! Ah whatta great movie, has such vivid memories for me.

 You didn't like the muppets? They're the best part!

This is definitely one of my favourite films. The ending is amazing, with the stair-maze thingy. The songs are fantastic, does anyone have the soundtrack? It's great!

I agree with the comments on David Bowie's crotch ;)

Easily the scariest thing about the movie! "You have no power over me!"

Love, love, love this movie. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out big time. I used to watch this over and over again when I was 13 or so.

"What kind of magic spell to use?
Snips and snails, puppy dog tails, thunder and lightnight and baby says...? Dance magic, dance magic, dance magic, dance magic.
Put that baby's spell on you..."

I love that song! Underground is even better!
"Life can be easy
It's not always swell
Don't tell me truth hurts, little girl
'cause it hurts like hell" :D

My favorite part:
"You remind me of the babe."
"What babe?"
"The babe with the power."
"What power?"
"The power of the voodoo."
"Who do?"
"You do!"
"Do what?"
"Remind me of the babe!"

:) :) :)

I'm afraid I just thought they were too childish. But I still loved the movie.
Probably my favorite line was "Everything you have asked, I have done." Or something to that effect. Reminded me of myself in a way.
I am SO going to find this on DVD. It will be happily nestled between The Princess Bride and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, as soon as I find the latter as well! ^^

Don't worry, you're amongst friends here! We've seen the film, bought the soundtrack, admired Sir David of Bowie's er... costume. :D
