Fantastic book. It's full of bloody pirates! Pirates and fighting and high adventure. Everywhere you turn there's a swash being buckled or a mystery to be solved. Loved this book. Did I mention it's got pirates in it? I do love pirates.

Pirates? DID YOU SAY PIRATES???? Ok, that's ALL I need to know.

I'm buying it!!!

There's a woman trying to escape from something bad she thinks might be about to happen. So she takes passage on a prison ship thats taking convicts off to a far away colony. Only the ship is taken captive by pirates and hauled away to become part of their floating city. But when she gets there she finds out that they're up to something a bit more sinister than just stealing ships. The story follows her attempts to get back home and to figure out just what in heckity is going on.

It's set in the world Mieville created in Perdido Street Station, but reading PSS is in no way a prerequisite for this book.

And it's got pirates in it. Uther Doul am sexy. In my mind at least.

It's a bit more involved I feel than being a pirate story. In fact I would say that is the least of it to be honest. There are some really unusual characters in this book and what an imagination this author has :)

The creatures are brilliant, so different I can't even think of a reference to their likes in other books. It can be detailed though, not that I have finished the story yet, but I've managed to get 3/4 way through and it took a little doing.

I do think it is worth the read though, just for the colourful characters alone.

I've gotten better Easter presents...but none more heart felt :D

I just got this one too, loved PSS (except the ending, which kind of petered out)

YAY, pirates :)

china mieville is the author

His first book is called perdido street station While is set in the same world as The Scar the books are TOTALLY self contained and in no way shape or form do you need to read one to enjoy the other :)
