Franz Ferdinand

TIME-lauded, generally praised band of dubious-looking individuals making the strangest music I've head on first listen. Of course I stayed away.

Until I listened to Take Me Out a couple of more times, and then I was hooked.

I got their You Could Have It So Much Better, and it sounds like retro rock, and the sound reminds me very much of the Beetles.

Do you notice that they will start with a guitar riff, then go into the song proper with an entirely different rhythm? Wonderful stuff (for now).

Yes I really like their first album, particularly songs like Michael (which manages the difficult trick of being homoerotic without being camp) and 40 Feet, which has a cracking riff (and the ubiquitous Take Me Out of course). Their second album You Could Have It So Much Better I have not liked as much, though it was lauded from here to the moon and back by most of the critics on its release. Having said that, the opening track The Fallen is in my opinion their best song, just wondrous.

More.

Damn. You have no idea exactly how long I was standing there in the bloody record shop weighing which of the 2 albums I should buy. I *love* Take Me Out, and I don't know any song from the 2nd album. I decided what the hell, get the newer stuff. From your post it seems like I may have to get the first as well.

I agree, The Fallen is great. But the first 4 songs on the album made quite and impression on me. My wife who had a brief listen (her music tastes and mine differ a bit) commented that all their songs sound the same.

Well. Maybe. But they are spunky lively and just what I wanted.

Don't they sound like the Beetles? The more I listen the more I think they sound like them...

I recieved their second CD for christmas and really like it, I will have to go get the first now. I like Walk Away "I love the sound of you walking away, you walking away" the best so far.

At the risk of sounding like a cheesy advertisement, I'm going to say: If you like Franz Ferdinand.. you Might like The Bravery.

Franz Ferdinand is great, it's musik, it's a kind of retro rock and it is something different. Nothing thats in the charts is like Franz Ferdinand, they have their own style and you wife has kinda right. Every song of them has the same rythm, but that's why you hear a song and can tell that it is Franz Ferdinand.
