anyone read 'em?
I do. I think they're good. I'm on my 4th adventure in the "Realms"

it's really fun I'm like Peter Pan in never-never-land

book your flight today!

Yes, I loved these books back in middle school...I always felt like such a nerd trying to explain Faerun, drow, and what-not to the kids at school...I had very few friends:p .

If you haven't read any by R.A. Salvatore, do so NOW!

Drizzt rules!:D

....why'd you have to bring Forgotten Realms up.....
lol!

which ones have you guys read?
I've read

Hand of Fire
The Rage
The Black Bouquet

and I just finished
Vanity's Brood

maybe I should try Salvatore

You missed the good stuff. Start over with the Icewind Dale books there is about 12 ? :) And then the Moonshea trillolgy, and top it off with Elminister books.

I'll try 'em but imma hafta order them
thanks for your suggestions

what I really like about the Realms is the cults and gods, something DragonLance falls short of, the spiritual

wow your the first person i know that read other stuff and not salvtora

I read a crap-ton of those books through school. It always seemed to me to be the best incarnation of a fantasy world - it just captured everything I would want in a fantasy world. Anyways here's some recomendations: -

R.A. Salvatore, Ed Greenwood and Elaine Cunningham go without saying.

In particular try: -

R.A. Salvatore's Cleric Quintet (Ivan and Pikel rule!), Dark Elf Trilogy, Icewind Dale Trilogy. All of his work is currently being re-released by Wizards as The Legend of Drizzt (Boo!)

Ed Greenwood's Elminster books. The coolest mage in the Realms

Elaine Cunninghams Songs and Swords series (especially the first two) adn then Councelors and Kings and Starlight and Shadows - I thouroughly recommend the last trilogy!

Now that the main players are done with I would go for: -

The Avatar Trilogy - Deals with the Gods and a time when they walked Faerun
The Sembia Sereis - A good starting block for getting into the Realms, it was what the series was designed for.
The Cities Series - Especially City of Ravens - The main character I seem to remeber was pretty damn cool in that one.

Those are good starting blocks. After that it doesn't really matter what you go for because the world in which they are set is so vast that each one, moreso the elder novels, will detail different places and people anyway.

If you do find yourslef wanting to know more, try perusing some of the Forgotten Realms D&D supplements on monsters, Gods etc. If you want to know more about Faerun itself I'd go with The Forgotten Realms Atlas by Karen Wynn Fonstad.

Enjoy mon amis!

I love Forgotten Realms so far.

I read my first book of it a while ago, R. A. Savaltore's Homeland. I am currently reading Exile. I really, really like these books so far. I was very happy to find these books, this book, I am so tired of those prancing elves, staff stroking magicians, and loot humping dwarves fantasy books.

Another good fantasy writer I have just started to read is David Eddings. The Diamond Throne and The Ruby Knight were very good, should be reading The Sapphire Rose and then Domes of Fire soon.
