Jim Butcher: The Harry Dresden Chronicles

I just finished up the first one, Storm Front. The book reminded me of the early Anita Blake novels, what with the sarcastic sense of humor and a world where everyone knows the monsters exist. The action scenes tended to last longer than I would have liked, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the book. I'm going to start the sequel today.

I just read the first one Stormfront so far. At first I thought it was just really average but in the end I did wind up enjoying it. I think it helps that as Dresden says he may be a wizard but is far from all powerful. He can be a formidable opponent but it's also possible to catch him off gaurd.

In some ways this Wizard Private Detective idea reminded me of Constantine / Hellblazer to.

Stumbled on this thread and went to google, and ended up here. Jim Butchers website and read the first 2 chapters of the first in the Dresden files.

The writing style is very easy to read, and the plot sounds quite enjoyable, as long as it's not Dark Angel or Buffy I will give it a go. Time to start hunting down the first in the series, Storm Front. Maybe I'll have to employ a wizard to track one down for me. :D

I just got into this series and so far I like it. The first book was good but I think each book has been better than the last. I've just finished the 4th book.

This is the kind of fantasy that appeals to me. It's got a sense of humor and isn't set in some made up world where everyone has a weird 10 syllable name. And I love Bob.

the new book, White Night in the dresden chronicles is coming out today! (april 3) :) can't wait to read the new installment, just thought i'd bring it to attention to those who follow this series....harry,bob,and the gang are back! good day:)

I just read the first novel of this series and really liked it. I can't wait to start the sequel. But as my funds are limited, I'm going to have to wait until I get a little more $$
Harry is such an awesome character. Maybe he can come to my school and figure out the mystery of the nun that supposedly has haunted our school since she comitted suicide on the mysterious 4th floor back in 1867. Yep, my school's that old.

I became addicted to the TV series after the first episode, so I've borrowed my aunt's copy of the first book. It's great so far- quick, fun, easy, and interesting! Unfortunately my library doesn't have any of the books so I'll have to buy them.

After reading the books do you still like the series? I was so dissapointed with it. For some reason I still watched every episode. Maybe just hoping it would live up. Two of the episodes were really good though. He just didn't seem to use enough magic and why didn't he get beat up more?

books better than tv?

I watched the first couple of episodes of the dresden files on sky but wasn't really impressed. I made a mental note to try one of the books but haven't got round to it yet.

Are they better than the tv version? The program just seemed to jump in head first and gave no explanation to what was going on, like you were just supposed to know about different demons and whatnot.

I'll give the books a go if they are better!
