Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter

Has anyone else read this series, so far i have just finished book three in as many days and i am having to wait for the forth in the mail as my local book store had this one missing... dang

I think I read the first three or four...after the second book she gets a bit...meh. The books are fast paced but it seems like the author just wants to build up a plot to either have Antia in an 'awkward' position or build it up to have a sex scene. And in later books I hear all they do is have sex and her books turn into pornography.

just a guilty pleasure

i have had the (guilty) pleasure of reading most of the anita blake books, as well as a few of the merry gentry novels. i found them to be really great at first, and after a few reads I find that i have to be a specific mood to really enoy a vampire story by laurell k. hamilton anymore. perhaps her writing has gone downhill and maybe even become a little distasteful? however, i'm not one to be offended easily, so i welcome her gratuitous sex scenes, just seems like she's given up on the plot entirely.

i've read up to book 8 now... yes porn is starting to appear but it still has greatbits to grab hold of and the plots are easy to follow, if not easy enough to make them boring. Then there is the over riding plot of Anita's life and how her growing powers, and her increasing mingling with the "monsters" effects her relationships, friends and her psyche.

This is what I hate. When authors go and ruin the plot lines or characters like that. If she was intending for it to be a porn series, then she should have started it out that way. But don't get people worked up on it, egar for the next novels to come out, just to find out it's full of porn.

Sorry, my little vent for the day.

I got hooked on to her books............

Hi! I have read all of Laurell K. Hamiton's books excepting "Burnt Offerings". I really don't care what people say about Anita turning into a super slut but in my opinion, Laurell K. Hamilton is definitely a very good writer. Have you read the Meredith Gentry/NicEssus books? They're good too. :)

This was on my to be read list but it will be removed. I don't mind sex scenes in a book but if that is the majority what's the point. The first looke kind of interesting. What a shame

Anita Blake Series

I have read all 13 (there is actually one that is not accounted for in the series - it's called MICAH) of the Anita Blake series and have read all 5 Merry Gentry series.
They are all totally awesome. I love her. I have read her whole series 3 times already and still love it.

Regards CARY

Anita's 15th book is coming out this summer: "The Harlequin".......I just can't wait for it. Merry's 6th book: "A Lick of Frost" is coming out sometime in October. Laurell K. Hamilton is just awesome!!!

Oh, don't take them all off your reading list. They're all good up through Obsidian Butterfly, the last decent book in the series. It's actually a perfect place to end the series, in my opinion. The last couple that I read weren't as good as the first ones.

They are really interesting books, with a really good plotline. It's just that after she wrote Obsidian Butterfly, Hamilton turned it into a porn series. Before that it just had a sex scene here and there. The first book to have a true sex scene in it even was the sixth. You'd be safe trying out Guilty Pleasures and seeing how you like it from there.

Well, I've read all 14 books and I must admit, although they are pretty much handwritten pornography in most of the later books, they still had a decent plot line (although very simplistic). The main reason I continue to read is because I really want to know the ending. Who ends up with who?

I would recommend all the way until Narcissus in Chains. That's the one that really just...well...it creeped me out. The villain and such was amazingly detailed, but the rest was just...meh.

I liked Cerulean Sins. Anita raised the dead, investigated crimes... she actually stepped outside the bedroom in this book. The worst book in this series is the one after that, Incubus Dreams. 600-something pages and only 100 (or so) pages don't feature any sex. The poor editing and horrid grammar only make things worse.

Yes, the poor editing does take away from the story doesn't it? I had touble actually reading Incubus Dreams. It also made me very very....umm....bored. :D What? Did ya think I was gonna say horny? :D
