Non-fiction sports books

I was just wondering what people thought of sports biographies, books about a particular sporting event, etc. Personally I like them; allow me to get a break from the somewhat "heavy" novels that I tend to read. Would like to know what you guys think.

If I have stepped on somebody else's toes, just merge the post with the other thread that had been started. If I haven't, just leave as is. :)

I highly recommend Balls by Greg Nettles. The Yankees were a mess organizationally during the '80s. A different manager every year, if not every mid-season, not to mention having George Steinbrenner as an owner, and that's not even taking into consideration the players. Nettles was a heck of a good player who played a LONG time.

Personally, I want to buy Canseco's book so I can read how he and McGwire supposedly loaded each other up with 'roids in a bathroom stall.

The only sports book that I can think of having read is a biography of Moe Berg called The Catcher Was a Spy. It was a very interesting book and well written. However, I have been meaning to read several sports books (When Pride Still Mattered, The Majors - that sort of thing).

I've read more baseball books than are good for me (especially since most are Red Sox books). I recently read the Moe Berg biography and found it fascinating. Haven't gotten round to reading Friday Night Lights yet, but it's on the list.
