The "Ctrl+V" Game

do you find yourself in darkness
do you find yourself in light?
that's a question I want answered
could you answer me tonight?
could you give me some directions
in this cave of afterlife?

do I struggle with my conscience
as it struggles with my life?
in this blackness that surrounds me
but doesn't give me any room
there's so much that I forget
is that the curse of the mummy's tomb?

we're all the bold explorer
we all seek gold and fame
out asking for directions
to the house that knows no pain

and the casual traveller wonders
who led us all astray
as he leans against the bar
and watches children play
in the blackness that surrounds them
where there's never any room
but he's following his own quest
for the curse of the mummy's tomb

there are riches here you cannot sell
so value them we don't
there are spies at every corner
please help us they say "won't"
there are special traps of wisdom
devised to seize the fool
to entomb him with the mummy's gold
there are demons who shout "duel?"

but I'm too busy with my conscience
I'm too busy with my gloom
can you rid me of the fever?
that's the curse of the mummy's tomb

we started out together
our expeditions linked
but every student has a theory
the best he's ever thinked
and our vanity betrays us
and our nerve it disappears
after crossing the dark threshold
into loneliness and tears

could I travel into caves unknown
hear the dullest thud of doom
can I wander noisy silence?
that's the curse of the mummy's tomb

buried deep within the mountain
in the Valley of the King
there's a passageway that leads there
where the wind whistles and sings
of a time so long forgotten
but it seems like yesterday
when the queen was in her palace
and the king was on his way
to the bosom of his family
to the holy golden womb
what was that love?
that's the curse of the mummy's tomb

if you want to know what happened here
there is writing on the wall
there are strange signs and ornaments
that'll really tell you all
but they're easy to misunderstand
you have to tell the truth
that's how you find the secret
of her eternal youth

there are curses that are blessings
there are clues in every room
it's up to you now
that's the curse of the mummy's tomb

nobody there to help you
as the apparition nears
nobody loves like she did
could take away your fears
was this what you were afraid of?
life without the queen?

forget it, just remember
this life is but a dream
and you know that hope's returning
like a new bride to the groom
there's no curse...
just a mummy's tomb

It just struck me that I didn't give a source on the text i pasted above. It's "The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb" by World Party, off the album Egyptology (which people really should listen to, if only to hear the original and far superior version of "She's The one", later butchered by Robbie Williams).

Oh wow beer good, am checking out that album...

I found today's puzzle a bit dull. I plodded through most of it at a moderate pace, but took longer than I should over 6 ac (Cosmetic operation (8) = FACELIFT), and then became stuck on 5 dn (Not defective (8) = UNFAULTY, a rather ugly word, and not one I would ever think of using in real life).

So all credit to superted2k for rattling it off in a very brisk time and beating jon88, also very fast, into 2nd place. No sign of enileuqcaj, who made such a promising start last week, but I'm pleased to see that hjseidman has reappeared, even if, judging from her time, her PC is still in an extremely poor state. With cotterell failing to make an appearance, Magoo strengthens his lead for the month.

Fastest time: superted2k (1:26)
Slowest scoring time: mistigris (2:50)
My time: 2:56 (12th)

Nina: I can see FOOT in the unches crossing the centre of the puzzle horizontally and vertically, but I've a sneaking feeling there's more to it than that. There were a few words where As alternated with consonants, but only in what seemed to me to be a rather haphazard fashion.

Hey. I must be famous now!!

EDIT: Here is mine......

This is what we've worked up so far:

App - ??? Casey, I think you should come up with an idea, you're good at that

Salad - ??? I know you guys like fancy salads. Meg, could Tom do it if we told him what to do?

Main - Pork loin w/ gorgonzola cream sauce over linguini (Meg & Casey this is ALL you two)

Sides - ??? should we do a side with it? I'll do it if you want to have one.

Dessert - Creme Brulee (me)

I can also help you guys out with the appetizer if you need, or the salad if you want. Do you think a gorgonzola vinegrette would be too much with the sauce on the pork? It sounded so good when we talked about it last night. Casey, will Melissa be cool with all this?

Stephanie dice, hágalo esta manera, Lo prometo que trabajará.

¿De dónde usted consiguió eso? No pienso que pertenece a usted.

Where did that come from?????????

This is the last thing my boyfriend copyed:

GIA# 15320532

That's a diamond report from the Gemological Institute of America.
Good game. You never know what's going to come up.

My sister told me about this game and I thought it might be fun. All you have to do is post a reply containing whatever comes up when you hit "Ctrl+P" (obviously the last thing you copied and pasted).

I guess I'll start:

Wow. We should all start calling them. No. don't do that.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Hm. That's interesting. I e-mailed that to a friend earlier today...

Ah, we had to learn that one at primary school for ANZAC Day - the day where we commemorate all of our fallen soldiers, especially the ones who died at Gallipoli. We wear little pin-on poppies as a sign of our support.
