Fantasy Movies

It reminded me of Labyrinth in that the main character was a girl in her teens who needed to learn a lesson, and learned it by entering a fantasy world made up of things found in her bedroom, and came back in a way that made you wonder if it was perhaps all a dream.

You are going to *love* Pan's Labyrinth. (Though fair warning, it's pretty violent.)

I saw a thread earlier on that and was interested in that as well. Don't worry. I love gory movies. I'm weird. I flip out while the gore is happening, but it makes me feel better afterwards. Which sounds creepy, but I'm a very non-violent person. Strange how things like that work out. Supposedly, non-violent people get rid of aggression through things like writing and watching violent movies, which I guess makes sense because my mother is too squeamish for it and while she's not violent, she yells a lot when she's mad.

I saw the trailer for Pan's Labyrinth on TV the other night. It looks much more interesting than the descriptions on places like IMDB lead you to believe.

Turns out Pan Labyrinth is on at the small theatre here that shows more independent movies and I'm going with my friends next month. One of them has already seen in and says it is amazing. *dances*

I'm not sure if it's showing at any theaters near me. Is it showing in the US or do we have to wait for it to come out on DVD and order it from Europe?

I am so excited for Pan's Labyrinth...it looks like a great film. Is there anyone here who's seen it already? Did you find the graphic violence hard to handle? I'll admit, I'm a little squemish about blood and guts and all that. I'd appreciate some warning as to what I'm getting into if anyone's seen it. The fact that it's in Spanish just makes me more excited...dunno why :)

Let's see. I've seen The Dark Crystal, The Beastmaster, the Conan movies, Willow, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Howard the Duck, The Wizard of Oz, The Tenth Kingdom, Hook, Fantasia, Dragonheart, The Phantom Tollbooth, The Addams Family, Eric the Viking, plus some of the afore-mentioned movies. This doesn't count the fully animated pictures such as Finding Nemo, Through the Hedge etc.

I loved The Last Unicorn. I see someone has mentioned that. It's a children's cartoon, but still very enjoyable now I find.
I thought Narnia was ok.
I would have to say that anyone who is planning to go see Eragon should keep their money. I really thought it was terrible, personally. The only really great thing about it was the friesian horse that the mentor character rode on.

*walks in from cinema*

You have to see this film... It was completely and utterly amazing! :D

It is quite graphic at times, but for me it brought out more of the realism in it. Trust me, the effects are fantastic and so is just about everything else. If you can, go see it at a cinema as it really brings out the best in it and adds to the spectacular graphics. :)

Isn't it a bit gory though? Some friends were really put off by that and I'm not sure I want to see it any more. What did you think? btw - how are you finding Oryx and Crake - I really liked it but I know not everybody has done!

Don't even get me going on the Lord of the Rings movies. Watched them all about 7-8 times now :D

Only 7 or 8 times? How dare you call yourself a fan! :D

JK. I'm glad there are lots of people like me who can't get enough of these films.

I've already forgotten what other people have written in this thread, but this is IMDBs top fantasy movies list.

Good to see The Wizard of Oz, Indiana Jones, and Shrek on there. But no Labyrinth! Bah!

There were a few scenes of it, but I have no problem with that kind of stuff usually. A few of my friends had trouble with it though and hid behind their hands until it was over. :p It is really well done, really. Not too much either.

As for Oryx and Crake, I'm really enjoying it (and I'm half way through). :D
