Athiest protagonists?

Phew! I managed to spell that word from memory.. I'm so clever. :)

anyway. I'm trying to see if there are any books out there that has athiests as protagonists. And they are still moral people throughout.

Thank you!

You'll love Bazarov in Ivan Turgenev's Fathers and Sons. If you're doing a report, this one has a lot of angles. Some say that Bazarov is Turgenev's shining character while the olde characters represent the stodgy monarchy and elite of Russia. To radicals, Bazarov was lampooned by Turgenev while the views of older Russians were viewed as being stable. In essence, both sides hated him, even his fellow Russian writers.:D

As an atheist, I take offence at this statement. Is there a general consensus that being an atheist precludes one from any kind of moral virtue?

But that's a topic for the Mature Discussion board, methinks.

Oh, and er...I can't think of any atheist protagonists off the top of my head.

The Stranger by Albert Camus
Outside Looking In by Gil Gaudia
The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoievsky
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
The Stand by Stephen King

There's some to start with, anyhow.

I'm an athiest and dislike how we're portrayed in popular media. And when one does read about an athiest in a book, they're often the villain, not the hero.

Yes, I was referring to protagonist and not athiest. :)

i've already read the outsider and liked it. I think reading that book and reflecting upon it now inspired me to start this thread.

I'm not doing a report on this. It's just for fun. :)

Hi veniqe, who is the author of The Outsider?

Excellent reference!. She has a knack for humiliating "collectivism" as a whole, especially religion.
