Bill Gates: The Road Ahead

It's creepy to read about TODAY'S internet and the advancement of computer technology as written by Bill Gates back in 1994. He actually wrote 'The Road Ahead' between 1992-1993.

It's an amazing book, indeed. The first few chapters are a down-to-earth explanation of his early life and how Microsoft was started. The remainder are predictions about where technology, especially computers and the internet, are going...based on what was known in 1992.

I picked up a first edition at a thrift store, complete with a CD containing a rudimentary 'browser.' Ha...couldn't open the CD because it won't run on anything newer than Windows 95. That was the only disappointment with this book. Gates makes predictions one after another, and he only got two things wrong:

1) He thought HDTV wouldn't go very far because the TV stations would not spend the money to upgrade their signals.
2) He thought the device where you could go online by using a keyboard attached to your television WOULD go far.

Not bad, two misses, and a whole lot of other correct predictions. Reading it today will make you think he was friends with Nostradamus in a previous life, because he sure predicted the future of the internet without a miss.

Added to my TBR list. I wouldn't mind reading a decent biography/autobiography of/by Bill Gates; I think it would be quite interesting. :)

I have a couple of questions before I spend money on this book ?

Is this an autobiography or his thoughts on e-future ?

Will we see many of the discoveries he thought about in near future or the predictions in his book are dead in 2008 ?

Any other views ?
