Can't recall the title or author....

I read a book several months ago and know there is to be a follow up book but I can't recall the title or author of the first book so I could really use some help.

In a nut shell, the story line revolves around a young lady who goes to Ireland because her sister has gone missing while there. This lady develops abilities to see "beings" that suck the beauty out of people and use that for their own life force. She finds refuge of sorts with a man who lives in a building with an old book store but there is more to him than just an ordinary bookstore owner. She figures out that parts of the city (maybe Dublin) are simply forgotten...they disappear from the city directory even. If you go out at night and end up near one of these forgotten streets you will be attacked by these shadow creatures. In the end, she tracks down information about her sister to one of these streets and goes to the house. She finds evidence that someone lives there and has photos of her sister. She goes to the back yard and into a warehouse. She finds a portal that creatures are coming through to take over the world....and the bookstore owner is there helping her fight off the creatures until they can run away. It ends sort if like that and you know there is much left to the story.

I usually read books by Nora Roberts/J D Robb, Elizabeth Lowell, Linda Howard, and Cherry Adair if that helps any.

Thanks for your time!!
