Cultism

Hey, im not very known with the book world, so sorry if im missing obvious classics.
Anyway, im looking for a novel concerning, cultism, im not exacly sure what this in general means, so i can get a rundown, im inspired by a videogame "Resident Evil 4" but there is prolly not many gamers out here
Anyway, lets give an example, 2 persons gets lost in the woods, one of them dissapears, the people in a village there act eerie, and sooner or later the protaganist (spl?) finds out some big secret, usually concerning a god, or another kind of extreme religion

These may be somewhat classical but here are two suggestions.

A Secret History by Donna Tartt. Some young people get carried away by their classical studies and the result is not pleasant.

The King Must Die by Mary Renault. Historical novel set in pre-classic Greece: the Theseus legend. Why and how must the king die?

Also, one person's cult is another person's innovative new religion. Take a look at A Study in Scarlet by Conan Doyle: Sherlock Holmes goes up against the Mormons.

If you want a book about a cult, you may want to pick up 'Survivor' by Chuck Palahniuk (he's the guy who wrote Fight Club). That's got a good storyline about a death cult similar to Heaven's Gate. Very good read....and with a hidden ending, I might add!

If you're looking for a book similar to the RE series, try 'Cell' by Stephen King. Cell phones turn everyone into zombie like creatures. This one is going to be made into a movie in the next couple of years. I liked that one.

If you want a frickin' awesome book, pick up 'I Am Legend' by Richard Matheson. This book is the original zombie book, although the zombies are vampires. This book inspired Romero's 'Dawn, Day and Land of the Dead' movies. It's a short one, too.....160 pages, I think. The movie for this one is coming out in December, I think. Starring Will Smith.
